According to the Hollywood Reporter, Hudson will play the part of one of three nuns who run the orphanage where the stooges -- Larry, Curly and Moe -- grow up. The ensemble cast also features 'Glee' star Jane Lynch, 'Seinfeld' creator Larry David and 'Modern Family' actress Sofia Vergara.
As for the lead roles, 'Will & Grace' star Sean Hayes plays the part of Larry, Chris Diamantopoulos is Moe and former 'Mad' TV' cast member Will Sasso takes on the role of Curly.
Produced by famed directing duo the Farrelly brothers, the silver screen adaptation chronicling the lives of the comedy trio is currently in production, and will be distributed by 20th Century Fox.
This latest role marks Hudson's fifth movie gig since taking home the best supporting actress Oscar in 2007, for the musical 'Dreamgirls,' which also starred Beyonce. Last year, Hudson took on the role of Winnie Mandela, ex-wife of former South African president Nelson Mandela, in the self-titled film, which is currently in post-production.
The Chicago native continues to split her time between music and movies, releasing her second album, 'I Remember Me,' earlier this year. The album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard album charts, selling 165,000 copies in its first week.
