Followers of 'Fest's Twitter feed learned that he had checked himself into the emergency room on June 2 for having dangerously high sugar levels in his blood. It was then that the MC, who ran for 20th Ward alderman in Chicago, learned that he had been living with diabetes unbeknownst to him. The condition can be controlled with diet and exercise, which 'Fest is quickly incorporating into his new, healthier lifestyle.
"I'm back y'all, thanks 4the prayers and well wishers. I got released from the hospital over the weekend. diabetes is manageable so I'm good [sic]," 'Fest tweeted. "Got a new diet, work out plan and lease on life. Gotta get off this insulin."
Between running for Alderman and his ongoing music career, in hindsight the 'Brand New' rapper realized he didn't prioritize his health. "Now that my sugar is down I feel much better I was operating on overdrive for years and had no idea," he tweeted.
Rhymefest was recently in the news after Lil B shared his thoughts about the rapper with CNN Radio. "I'm going to say, who is Rhymefest?" B responded, after being told that 'Fest said the Based God needed a father figure in his life, upon listening to his music.
