The 'Lasers' rapper, who has made similar departures from the spotlight in the past, announced his retirement from the social networking site Wednesday (July 13), leaving behind more than 723,000 followers.
"I'm quitting twitter. it was fun while it lasted," Lupe wrote. "Thanks for the support on #lasers and i will see you all on the road soon... don't forget...Love Always Shines Everytime Remember 2 Smile."
On his way out, the Chi-town MC appointed indie singer Nikki Jean, who was featured on his 'Hip-Hop Saved My Life' single, to tweet in his stead. "U know what??? i'm gonna let @NIKKIJEAN takeover my twitter -- go get that album," Lupe wrote, pointing fans to Nikki's album, 'Pennies in a Jar,' and replacing his profile picture and background with her album artwork.
"Big thank you to @LupeFiasco for supporting my record. He won't be gone for too long.. Promise ;-)," Nikki tweeted from his account, hinting at the rapper's return.
Several other artists have deleted their Twitter accounts in the past, including Kid Cudi, Cassie, Miley Cyrus, and most recently, fellow rapper Yelawolf.
While we await Lupe's imminent return, MTV's RapFix has compiled his top 5 Twitter moments here.
