In receiving the honor, Snoop joins the ranks with George Clinton, Willie Nelson, James Brown and the late Isaac Hayes, who are all among the past recipients of the award. The night will also feature a star-studded tribute to Snoop, as well as trophies to be handed in the categories of Song of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and Publisher of the Year. Additionally, BMI will also honor the year's hottest producers, whose music has topped the Billboard R&B, Hip-Hop and Rap charts.
Aside from the 39-year-old West Coast rap star, Drake, Wiz Khalifa, Marsha Ambrosious, Busta Rhymes and Ace Hood are among the list of artists expected to attend the show. The 11th annual BMI Urban Awards will be held at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles, Aug. 26.
Snoop Dogg has 11 studio albums to his name, with his debut effort being 'Doggystyle,' released in 1993, which spawned 'Gin and Juice' and 'Doggy Dog World,' and his current LP, 'Doggumentary,' with singles 'Wet' and 'Boom' moving it onto the Billboard charts.
