Lauryn Hill Sued for Damages, Owed Wages Totaling $23,600

Lauryn Hill has been a fixture in the headlines for her recent child birth but now she's receiving attention for actions that are far less celebratory. The one-time Fugees frontwoman is at the center of a lawsuit, brought forth by a former band member who is looking for $23,600 in owed wages and damages.

Jay Gore, a guitar player who worked alongside Hill on her 2007 European tour, has filed legal documents that reveal 'The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill' creator failed to pay him for his work during the performances, according to TMZ. Gore's lawyer, Nicholas Andrea, disclosed to XXLMag.com the total amount, which equals $3,600 "for the back wages that he's owed." The remaining $20,000 is for punitive damages, aimed at preventing such a situation from happening again.

The "situation" in question is a hostile work environment, one in which the rapping talent was notorious for subjecting her employees to, says Gore. In the lawsuit, Hill's ex-bandmate reveals she "exhibited the type of behavior for which she had gained public notoriety which contributed to a hostile work environment." He also stated that after shows, "...Hill would demand that the musicians and road support personnel attend meetings where she would engage in a person-by-person critique and berating."

Lauryn Hill, who publicly addressed the rumors surrounding whether or not Rohan Marley fathered her sixth child, has yet to release a statement regarding Jay Gore's lawsuit.

Sounds like there are MANY of you that are hating on Ms Hill. She has beautiful voice, very talented. While many of you may not agree with who or how many different fathers she has for her children THEY are taken care of. So how many baby mommas and daddys do you have? Are they taken care of? Do you Ms Hill and forget the rest!

It's hard to think of this woman as a "singer" - she probably has the worst voice of anyone who has ever sold records, right down there with Mrs. Miller's "Yellow Submarine".

I guess musical taste is subjective. While I like Miss Hill's singing voice, and marvel at her song writing, MC'ing, and interpretive skills, I realize that others may differ. Much the way I felt about Macy Gray after her 1st major release. You probably see Miss Hill the way I see Bob Dillon. He could hold water better than he could a note. However, he was great for his time and created lyrics that inspired generations.
