The 23-year-old chanteuse, who recently signed with songwriter Rico Love's Division I imprint upon exiting from her deal with Warner Bros. Records, crashed her car into the rear of another vehicle while driving in Beverly Hills early Friday morning. When LAPD arrived to the scene of the accident, TMZ reported that she showed visible signs of intoxication. Upon her arrest, she allegedly also became "combative" with an arresting officer and even gave one a "minor cut."
Mari, whose bail was set at $50,000, was released late Friday afternoon. While she is owning up to her negligence, she vehemently denies assaulting a police officer. "...I absolutely did NOT 'attack' a Beverly Hills police officer and I'm very confused by those allegations [sic]," read the singer's statement.
Read Teairra Mari's statement, which includes her apology, below.
"Let me start by saying that this is a very embarrassing moment for me, I know that I've disappointed so many people including myself. I take full responsibility for my actions, but I absolutely did NOT 'attack' a Beverly Hills police officer and I'm very confused by those allegations. I did have drinks and I misjudged the situation by driving myself home. I want to apologize to those that I endangered that night and also to the people that I've let down. I hope that this situation can save someone from making the dumb decision to drink and drive!"
