Pill Is 'Answer to Rap Cancer,' Talks Maybach Music LP

Sometimes signing to a record deal early doesn't mean an artist will pop early. Rapper Pill can testify to that fact. Signed to Maybach Music Group since late 2010, he has yet to premiere the one big song that will put him over the top like his MMG cohorts Meek Mill and Wale.

"I'm just getting back into the swing of things and trying to get things back popping the way
they're supposed to be," he tells The BoomBox. "I don't have no shots for anybody who's ever worked with me. I'm just doing me. I'm doing my thing right now. I got a second cover of XXL, I'm on the BET cypher, you've seen me overseas in London with Mark Ronson, you've seen me on 'Jimmy Kimmel' twice, you've seen me on '106 &Park' twice. You've never seen that before I had a management issue."

Pill has addressed having to rebuild his buzz, stating that due to missed opportunities under his previous management, he's had to put in extra work to prove that he still has the star quality that got Rick Ross to notice him in the first place. He's hoping this will happen on MMG's second offering, 'Self Made, Vol. 2,' and his debut album, 'The Medicine,' both due out in 2012.

"I'm like 50 percent done," Pill reveals of his forthcoming LP. "I'm just trying to refill these people's prescriptions and to give them the answer to rap cancer and I'm that 'pill' -- the medicine. The medicine is there. That's what I'm here for, to cure the rap cancer, 'cause it's a lot of that right now. Especially out of Atlanta."

Pill's latest work can be heard on his fourth mixtape, 'The Diagnosis.'
