TLC Member T-Boz Files for Bankruptcy

TLC singer T-Boz has reportedly filed for bankruptcy.

The 'Ain't Too Proud to Beg' crooner, born Tionne Watkins, may want to rethink her policy on 'Scrubs,' after her inability to make mortgage payments on her $1.2 million home forced her to file documents in a U.S. Bankruptcy Court last month. She reportedly owes creditors $768,642.99.

Though the 41-year-old's monthly expenditures were not particularly exorbitant, taking home a monthly income of $11,700, with expenses of $8,821, according to the court documents procured by TMZ, Watkins claims the chief source of her financial problems was the $250,000 she was owed in back child support.

TLC enjoyed an illustrious, if somewhat tenuous career, scoring four Grammy Awards, ten Top 10 singles, and selling over 30 million total albums. However, Watkins claims to only be receiving $1,200 in royalties per month from her work with the group.

The singer has yet to publicly address her financial problems, and it is not yet known whether her bankruptcy stems, in part, from her medical expenses incurred while fighting off a potentially fatal brain tumor, which she was diagnosed with in 2006.

Awww leave her alone!! Medical issues can be very expensive when dealing with a chronic illness. Insurance doesn't pay for everything like co-pays. I hope she does well and wish her the best. Times are hard and positivity trumps all!!! ;)

Not intending to criticize this lovely lady, but I always wonder why people in her situation don't sell their million dollar home and buy a $300,000 home, which would be high living for average workers. If you can't do that in the exclusive areas, just move to a smaller town. Pare down to driving a Maxima or something. Anybody could live on her income.

Hey - AMERICA IS IN A MORTGAGE-MELTDOWN - Bank of America, WellsFargo, and other gave illegals mortgages and when their 3/1 ARM etc changed from $800.00 a month to $3500.00 a month, they walked. This of course while the legitimate Black, White, Latino WORKING CLASS were getting LAID OFF and could not pay their mortgages either. I personally went from $8000.00 a month to $840.00 a month on unemployment. Thank God it did not last in my case long enough for me to lose my home. Others were not so lucky- This is not a BLACK thing - its an AMERICAN THING

Thank you for an insightful post. You are right! It's not a black thing! It's an American thing. Everywhere we look today people losing their homes to forecloser. And there is no end in sight. BOA and Wells Fargo are so indifferent to these people thinking ignoring it, it will go away. Every customer of these banks should pull out and go to a credit union.

@R: Dude you sound stupid and lack compassion. The idea that you believe "all" black folks that become successful in the entertainment industry don't manage their money well is ridiculous. People of all races fail in show business as well as in the corporate world. Conversely, people of all races SUCCEED in managing their wealth as well.

There is no rule of race that dictates success or failure in managing show business earnings. Why does she have to get a "real" job versus her career? What part of she's an entertainer do you not understand? Your comment sounds extremely ignorant and reeks of jealousy bro. She has a job in that she is an entertainer and actress. Pay attention bro because you obviously missed that point.

I doubt very seriously that she ends up being "taken care of" by the government bro. The bottom line is that not you or I know the DETAILS of what took place with her finances. Many entertainers get ripped off by agents. Just ask Billy Joel who went broke after his agent stole every dime he had. Oh yeah! Billy Joel is white.

The good thing is that Billy Joel was able to re-build his career and re-accumulate his wealth. He didn't go get a "real job" he worked as an entertainer as he always has. Imagine that. Learn something about people and life before you comment again R.

Just another case of a Black person who can't manage their money. It's sad...just like all these Black athletes who go bankrupt after making millions. Where would Blacks be if we didn't have sports or music? Try getting an education and a "real" job like the rest of us. I see a TLC tour in the future... I'm sure Chilly has the time.

Hey Superstar!!!

This comment is beyond ignorant. There are African Americans who do things beyond sports and music, the media, of course, shows you only the latter. But thanks for the comment; I'm going to finish my masters in accounting, get a good job, and prove people like you wrong. Managing my money definitiely should be no problem, correct?
