Rihanna Smokes Weed at Hotel in Hawaii

Just days after The BoomBox reported that Jay-Z and Beyonce's daughter Blue Ivy inspired a new strain of marijuana, Rihanna was spotted indulging in the illegal drug while on the island of Hawaii.

Rap-Up.com reports that the 'Talk That Talk' creator was vacationing in Hawaii when paparazzi spotted the songstress smoking a weed-filled blunt. Dressed in a red tank top and black leggings, the 23-year-old was without her signature red lipstick but still looked refreshed as she basked in the sun.

On Sunday (Jan. 15), the 'We Found Love' performer took to Twitter and shared a breathtaking view of the Hawaiian sunrise. "Waken...Baken...Good morning," she wrote to her more than 12 million followers. Stoners everywhere likely applauded RiRi for her words, as the standard marijuana smoker tagline for early morning smoke sessions is "Wake and Bake."

Later that night, it seems the curly haired Def Jam signee engaged in another smoke session when she tweeted lyrics from Nicki Minaj's verse on Drake's track 'Up All Night.' "Kush rolled, glass full...I prefer the better things!" she wrote.

Rihanna is enjoying downtime now but she'll soon carry on promo of her sixth album, 'Talk That Talk,' when her new single, the title track featuring Jay-Z, gains momentum across the globe.

Marijuanna held a psycologial addiction over me for years. I am blessed not to have that monkey on my back anymore. Rhianna does not have a family to support and take care of. Even though there is no physical effect from her choice to abuse this substance I'm sure that she will ultimately be forced with the same dillema once she has a family to take care of. Just being free not to have to get up in the morning and use that substance is a wonderful thing.

http://articles.courant.com/2012-01-16/business/hc-marijuana-traffic-deaths-0117-20120116_1_medical-marijuana-law-medical-marijuana-fatal-accidents

January 16, 2012|By MATTHEW STURDEVANT, msturdevant@courant.com, The Hartford Courant
States that legalized the medical use of marijuana have had a drop in deadly automobile crashes, suggesting that some people who would otherwise drive drunk and kill someone are smoking weed instead, according to research by three economists.

It's not clear if the would-be drunken drivers are high behind the wheel with less deadly results, or if they're simply not driving.

The research by professors at the University of Colorado-Denver, Montana State University and the University of Oregon looked at traffic deaths from 1990 to 2009 in all 50 states, including the 16 that passed medical marijuana laws.

"Legalization is associated with nearly a 9 percent decrease in traffic fatalities, most likely as a result of its impact on alcohol consumption by young adults," the researchers said in the report, published in November.

Advocates of a medical-marijuana law could tout the study's findings as a societal benefit of legalization. Opponents, however, could say that the study shows what they've argued all along — that a medical-marijuana law makes marijuana more available for recreational use.

This year is a short legislative session in Connecticut, which means that individual lawmakers may only introduce bills that have to do with budgetary matters. Other bills have to be introduced by the legislature's judiciary committee.

"My sense is that they will raise a bill because I know there's interest from the governor's office in doing a medical-marijuana bill this year," said state Rep. Penny Bacchiochi, R-Somers, who has been a longtime supporter of allowing people to use marijuana for medicinal purposes, such as relieving pain.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is a supporter of the concept of medical marijuana, said Malloy spokesman David Bednarz.

"The administration is still reviewing the legislation that he intends on introducing this year," Bednarz said.

Substitute For Alcohol

Traffic deaths are declining, on average, throughout the nation.

The drop in fatalities after a medical-marijuana law passed was greater than the drop in the other states.

"You get a much bigger effect on accidents involving alcohol, fatal accidents involving alcohol," said Daniel I. Rees, a co-author and an economics professor at the University of Colorado-Denver.

The study asserts that states that have medical-marijuana laws are allowing some people to access marijuana for recreational purposes, either through the system as would-be patients or illegally because of a bolstered supply of marijuana in the state after the law passes.

Some of those recreational users are drinking less.

Rees and the other researchers looked at surveys by state health departments and the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that asked people about their drinking behavior.

"The legalization of medical marijuana is associated with a 9 percent reduction in the mean number of drinks consumed per month by males, [and] a 12 percent reduction in the mean number of drinks consumed by females," the researchers wrote.

The study looked at alcohol sales, too.

"What we see is beer sales go down by about 5 percent," Rees said. "That's just an average effect."

"The reason we think this is really interesting is there's no effect on the sale of spirits and there's no effect on the sale of wine," Rees said. "And beer, of course, is the most popular drink among young adults. So, it sort of fits in with this whole substitution story among young adults."

Journal of the American Medical Association put a dent in the arguments against Marijuana smoking today, with release of a new report showing casual pot smokers might even have stronger lungs than non smokers.

Researchers say that there is good evidence that occasional marijuana use can cause an increase in lung airflow rates and lung volume. Volume is measured as the total amount of air a person can blow out after taking the deepest breath they can.

The study, which was carried out by The University of California, San Francisco, and The University of Alabama at Birmingham, spans over more than two decades and involves more than 5000 men and women, in four American cities : Birmingham, Chicago, Oakland, Calif., and Minneapolis.

One of the study's co-authors, Stefan Kertesz commented :

"At levels of marijuana exposure commonly seen in Americans, occasional marijuana use was associated with increases in lung air flow rates and increases in lung capacity ... With marijuana use increasing and large numbers of people who have been and continue to be exposed, knowing whether it causes lasting damage to lung function is important for public-health messaging and medical use of marijuana."

He continues that even at daily usage levels of one joint per day over seven years, people were not seeming to have any degradation of lung capacity or function.

The authors factored in for people who smoked tobacco and those that lived in more polluted areas with lesser air quality. The harm from cigarettes showed up clearly while those smoking a joint a day and not smoking tobacco did not show the degradation. Even one joint per week for twenty years did not appear to have significant effect.

Its not known exactly why tobacco appears to be so much more harmful than marijuana, especially considering the contents of the smoke are similar. It is known that THC, one of the main active cannabis oils in the herb, has anti inflammatory properties that may help to soothe the lungs. A part of the increased capacity was put down to the way pot smokers usually take deep breaths when they smoke, but one joint per day is hardly giving your lungs great exercise.

Obviously more research is needed, and it would be interesting to see results of lung tests in communities such as Jamaica and the Himalayas where smoking pot is endemic and done in larger daily volumes.

Weed is not a drug.

Alcohol is a far worse substance to use. Yet, I see no articles about celebrities being spotted drinking and using that 'drug' when they are out in public. There is no public outcry against people using the 'drug' called alcohol.

It just shows that AOL is tied in with "Corporations" and big business.
Mitt Romney: "Corporations are people"
This is what is wrong with the country. We get a one sided bias on everything. Here is another example. Big business and corprations like the pharmacy companies, tobacco, alcohol and all their lobbyists , all thrive by having marijuana remain illegal and while they push their posions, substances and morals onto everyone else.

Mainstream media is still coming out calling this plant a 'drug' while ignoring the fact that it is less harmful to use than legal substances like tobacco, alcohol and prescription pills.

Alcohol and tobacco are legal and cause cancer. You will DIE if you use the legal products long enough. You can OVERDOSE on alcohol by drinking too much. People drinking and driving kill countless amounts of people.

It is impossible to overdose on marijuana, it has less side effects and it is a much better substance to use.

That is why I choose Marijuana > Tobacco, alcohol, prescription pills, politicians, big business, lobbyists, propaganda and the media.

STOP THE PROPAGANDA, END THE WAR ON MARIJUANA

She's smoking mary-ja-wanna in Hawaii? Someone call Steve McGarrett! Seriously, the only way to get arrested smoking marijuana in Hawaii is if you're robbing a bank while you're smoking it.
