Early Thursday (Jan. 19), the Chicago Sun-Times reported that a trial for William Balfour, who was the singer's brother-in-law at the time of the October 2008 murders of her mother, brother and nephew, will commence with a jury selection on April 9. Testimony of witnesses and those involved in the case begins April 23.
Balfour was once married to Hudson's sister Julia and was estranged from her when he went on a shooting rampage a little over three years ago on Oct. 24, 2008, in Chicago. Due to jealousy over Julia dating another man, Balfour went to the Hudson family home and fatally shot Jennifer Hudson's mother, Darnell Hudson Donerson, and brother, Jason Hudson. Her nephew, 7-year-old Julian King, was found three days later shot and killed in a vehicle on the West Side of Chicago.
There is no word on whether the songstress, who recently released her book, 'I Got This: How I Changed My Ways and Lost What Weighed Me Down,' will attend the trial.
