NAACP Image Awards 2012: Adele, Chris Brown Nominated

As Spinner.com reports, last year, 2011, will forever be known as the time that everybody went friggin' nuts for Adele. The singer has spent a record 16 weeks at the top of the charts, tying the record for the 'Titanic' soundtrack -- her heart will go on, and on, and on, and on -- adding to a long list of accolades far to lengthy to name right now.

Most recently, Adele's tearjerker, 'Someone Like You,' off her sophomore album, '21,' has been nominated for for Outstanding Song at the NAACP Image Awards, where artists like Beyonce, Chris Brown, Cee Lo Green, Anthony Hamilton, Wynter Gordon, Common and Lupe Fiasco, among others, are nominated. But we'll say that again, Adele has been nominated for an NAACP Image Award, according to Billboard.

It's no secret that 'Someone Like You' is an undeniable, transcendent force of nature, able to pry the tears from even the most stoic pair of eyeballs -- as evidenced by a spot-on parody given on 'SNL.' Even so, that doesn't change the fact that Adele is unquestionably white and nominated for an award meant to celebrate the achievements of African Americans.

The award has honored white folk in the past -- Eminem and Justin Timberlake to name a couple. But, yeah, that song is so, so good.

Aside from Adele's nomination this year, RollingStone.com gives a rundown of the other nominees, including Jennifer Hudson, Diggy Simmons, Bruno Mars and Mary J. Blige. The NAACP Image Awards will be broadcast on NBC on Feb. 17 at 8PM EST.

Beyonce's usual 'image' of a high priced hoochie mama surely deserves an award. And don't lay the jealous tag on this one.....only have to watch most of her videos to confirm.

Image Award? Chris Brown? Excuse Me! Any man that lays his hands on a woman should never be nominated for an image award!

shut up, how long you going to dwell on that ? eventually people put things in the past, you act like it was one of your family members. Stop acting like you care, you're not impressing anyone

NAACP is just a disgrace and should not be in the entertainment business at all. Some of the nominees are as deplorable to black dignity and just women abusers and braggarts about how many women they have has sex with. The organization is just ghetto crap and could care less about its intended mission unless they can attack white men.
