Big K.R.I.T. '4Eva N A Day' Mixtape: Mississippi MC Releases Another Gem

Mississippi rapper-producer Big K.R.I.T. dropped his new mixtape '4Eva N A Day' on Monday (March 5), in anticipation of his Def Jam debut 'Live From the Underground.'

The soulful, Pimp C-influenced mixtape, his third in as many years, was entirely produced and arranged by K.R.I.T., featuring additional live instrumentation provided by guitarist Mike Hartnett and saxophonist Willie B, and no guest vocalists.

As one would imagine from the credits, '4Eva N A Day' maintains a consistent vibe, reflective and melancholic, even on upbeat numbers like 'Country Rap Tunes.'

On 'Handwriting,' K.R.I.T. discusses his struggles with his record label -- hint, it's not Def Jam -- rhyming "Excuse my tone of voice, but today was just a bad day/ Label hit me about another single and said I ain't have play/ Since 'Country S---,' hell they thought that was a regional record anyway/ But thank God for Bun B, and Ludacris because they had faith/ That s--- would take off, and it did, guess I was too country to quit/ I make albums not hits, these rich folks don't know about this."

Other standouts include 'Red Eye,' 'Yesterday' and 'Temptation,' but '4Eva N A Day' is a solid listen, back to front. Download it for free here.

K.R.I.T. will be performing at SXSW in Austin, Texas next week, headlining BET's Music Matters event on March 15.
