Nardwuar has sat down with some of music's biggest names -- Lil Wayne, Drake and Mac Miller, to name a few -- and in characteristic fashion, he wowed and baffled the A$AP crew, posing scarily well-researched questions and presenting them with obscure hip-hop records they listened to growing up.
The clip below begins with the Mob introducing themselves, and Rocky gets the best line, quoting his song 'Pe$o': "Man, I be that pretty motherf---er, man."
Later, Nardwuar brings up the Black Ink Gallery, a tattoo shop in the group's native Harlem that Rocky is shocked he knows about.
"Wow, how the f--- do you know about the Black Ink Gallery?" he asks, explaining that the shop is "one of the clubhouses" where the crew came together.
Nardwuar is also up on records by Cam'ron, the Diplomats and DJ Clue -- all major influences for the A$AP Mob -- and Desiree, the woman who appears in Rocky's video for 'Wassup.' When talk turns to A$AP's New York City stomping grounds, the rapper describes the uptown environs as "the jungle."
"That's where the wolves is at, man," he says.
Asked whether the neighborhood has changed, now that chain stores and fancy eateries have started moving in, Rocky stops short of bashing his home.
"Harlem is us now," he says. "Look at us. This is Harlem."
