Elder gives details on how Walker and LaVette, longtime friends, collaborated. "That seed took several years to bear fruit; but after crossing paths with Bettye enough times on the festival circuit, we eventually drank enough wine together to finally make it happen," he tells The BoomBox.
As for the lyrics, the song is a proud moment for the two. "The tune is, on the surface, about Charles and Bettye's intertwined histories as successful vocalists during the golden era of soul," Elder states. "And through the passage of time, them experiencing the realities of letting go, aging, and not really hitting the big-time; but striding proudly through the latter, and actually revitalized, stage of their careers together again."
Charles Walker and The Dynamites are prepping the release of a new LP, due this fall.
