Rihanna, Rock in Rio: Singer Pulls Out of Madrid Festival Following Grandmother's Death

Still reeling from the loss of grandmother Clara "Dolly" Braithwaite, Rihanna has pulled out of the Rock In Rio festival in Madrid, Spain, Contact Music reports. The R&B superstar had been slated to headline Thursday's (July 5) concert, and as organizers look to book a replacement, they're offering refunds to disappointed fans.

Ri's Rio cancellation comes on the heels of what, by all accounts, was a wildly unfocused performance at Sweden's Peace & Love Festival this past weekend. The singer had an excuse -- she'd just learned of Dolly's death -- but some concertgoers walked out on her set, believing she was intoxicated.

The singer took to Twitter soon after to pay tribute to her beloved "gran gran," who she visited regularly in New York.

''Goodbye #grangranDolly get your beauty rest until I see you," she tweeted, adding, "#grangranDolly that is all.''

Rihanna is, however, still scheduled to take the stage this weekend at the Wireless Festival in London.

I wonder is she will wear her necklace that says "C*nt" to the funeral. GranGran must have been proud of her.

I was brought up with the saying "If you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all". Although know for being a little controversial, Rihanna is devastated at her grans death and will be nothing but respectful at the funeral.

People, don't pay any attention to the "smart ass" hot air idiots who mouth off as if they actually are important, popular or talented themselves. I would lay big money on the fact that if a celebrity, ANY celebrity were standing in front of them they would barely be able to stutter out two words let alone spout off the hate and venom they do here. They do it here because it's anonymous and they don't have to claim ownership to the world. If all of us, including the celebrity, were standing here watching them they wouldn't say a word. That's called being a coward. If this woman cared and loved her grandmother only a fraction of how I did some of mine I feel so sorry for her. I lost a grandmother who was EXTREMELY close to me 38 years ago at age 13 and there are times and days now when I feel the grief and the pain of this just as badly as I did that horrible week of my life. People who actually have dear family who love this can relate to this death. Only those who aren't loveable and don't have anyone are bitter and jealous and try to raise themselves up by stomping down others. It's a sad life when the only way you can feel important is by trying to belittle others. That's a sign of a cold heart and a small mind. It's not only her own loss but she will also be there to support those who have just lost THEIR mother.

tenbarb, the person in the black dress is Beyonce. Why did you stop to read a story about someone you could care less about?

She may be massively famous, super-rich, and a really hard worker, but at the end of the day...she's human, too. She's been working non-stop for the past 3 years, and she should be able to take a break and go to her grandmother's funeral, and grieve with her family.
