The ink appears to be an image of a battered woman's face, a woman who looks remarkably like Rihanna, but the "Take You Down" singer insists it isn't her, nor any other battered woman.
In lieu of the controversy Brown headed to his usual outlet, Twitter, to set the record straight yesterday afternoon.
Although ABC News revealed yesterday that a rep told them the tattoo was a "sugar skull" or a Mexican Day of the Dead symbol, Brown confirms this in his tweet.

He references the Dias de Los Muertos festival and calls the tattoo a piece of art. In his next tweet, Brown also teases the upcoming video for "Don't Judge Me," with an Instagram photo. That song title is certainly feeling more and more ironic.
