Beyonce will be the halftime performer for Super Bowl XLVII (47), according to an anonymous source who leaked the news to The Associated Press today.
The big game will be held at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, La., next year on Feb. 3, 2013. An official announcement confirming Queen Bey as the entertainment for the night is supposed to come Wednesday, according to the insider.
The choice of the "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on it)" singer is amusing for that song title alone -- what football player doesn't want a gold championship ring? Beyonce's stellar singing skills and dance abilities will surely be a success for NFL ratings if she is chosen. Football is notoriously a sport watched by men, but with one of the biggest divas in the world performing at halftime, women will be glued to the screens as well.
Since Jay-Z's eight-day stint at the Barclays Center drew so much fan and media attention, and his surprise collaboration with Beyonce on his closing night drew a collective gasp of delight from almost the entire music community, riding the coattails of this power couple is a smart move for the NFL.
