Tah Streetz, Young Phantom and Jay West have been building their formula for success independently since 2008 and with their latest IAMSU!-produced release, they may have found it. The track is from their DJ Amen-hosted mixtape #ZEROGRAVITY, which dropped earlier this year.
Listen to F.L.Y. Street Gang's "Knock It Out"
"Knock It Out" is an upbeat ode to unhappy girlfriends who may need some outside attention every once in a while. The three young men toss flirty suggestions and overt pick up lines as they weave through the synth-heavy production. Their intent is obvious with simple quips like: "Baby girl I think it's time for a change of plans/ He don't do you right/ I can be that man..."
The Auto-Tune-tinged hook, sung by newcomer ROD, is perfectly forward and inhabits a smoothness not lost on the song's content: "Call my phone/ Hit me when your man ain't home/ I'ma come and knock it out..."
Though it may not be the sweetest love song hip-hop heads have heard this year, it's easily danceable and something to bump during a night out on the town. The fact that the track implements a sample from Slick Rick's "Children's Story" doesn't hurt matters either.
