Jay-Z Subway Ride: Woman Fails to Recognize Brooklyn Superstar (VIDEO)

Jay-Z Subway Ride Passenger Doesn't Know HimEvan Agostini, Invision

Jay-Z made headlines in October when he chose to ride the subway to his final show at the Barclays Center, but new footage reveals that not all of the passengers understood the commotion surrounding his commute.

The internationally known rapper released footage from his new documentary film in which he's shown explaining who he is to a woman on the train.

"Are you famous?" she asks. His response is both humble and hilarious: "Not very famous -- you don't know me," says the "On to the Next One" hitmaker, "I'll get there someday." The hip-hop mogul then introduces himself as "Jay" to the woman, who reveals her name is Ellen.

Probing a little further after Hov reveals he's going to Barclays to perform, she says "And you're taking the subway? I'm proud of you!" Finally when he clarifies that his name is Jay-Z, Ellen realizes who she is talking to.

"Oh you're Jay-Z? I know Jay-Z!" she sheepishly exclaims. Adorable.

The documentary will chronicle his eight show stint that helped christen the brand new Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Entitled "Where I'm From: Jay-Z Barclays Center Documentary" the full 24-minute film is now available on Youtube. For a preview, watch Hov's funny interaction with Ellen below.

We all live in our own little worlds. I remember asking a young girl in a long line in NY what the line was for. She looked at me with a mixtureof disbelief and contempt and said "Justin Bieber.". Evidently I was supposed to know the whereabouts of said Bieber all the time.

I'm a senior citizen, proud grandpa, listen to opera and classical music all day, and I know a bit about MR. Jay Z. I know he's taken some stands I strongly disagree with, and I know he has earned my respect. He is in my humble opinion, a extraordinary man and lucky to be married to an incredibly talented and gorgeous lady, (she's prettier, much prettier than Jay Z. However, if confronted by him in person I'm not too sure in a common place setting I'd know who he is right away. I could list names of the famous and even the super famous who I did not recognize right away- it's no biggie. The LADY he was speaking with knew once she realized he was Jay Z. Hope he extended an invite-heck, I'm a claisscal music lover, but I ain't dead, I'd enjoy seeing him perform...You see, some of us have more reference points to draw from----great clip.

You people are so gullible. You think anything on the internet or reality tv is real. They'll do ANYTHING to get you to watch. Sad!

Why would she recognize him? His music isn't for everyone. I know many Black people don't like his style of music or the culture that supports it, and could care less 'who' he is, worse, they don't want to know his 'kind'. He's a producer these days and behind-the-scenes, anyway. So what? Who cares who recognizes him or not. His existence doesn't impact our world in such an important manner that we should worry about who knows him from Adam. Silly article concept.

I don't know know who Jay-Z is either and I have never heard his music, I'm just not into that type of entertainment. I love classical music but I certainly wouldn't call you ignorant if you didn't know who the composers were or who conducted the movements. Keep in mind however classical music has been around for hundreds of years.....in five years NO ONE will know who Jay-Z is or the music he made.

Disagree. He is more than just a rapper. He is the first rapper to become a millionaire. He is the owner of the Brooklyn Nets. He practically built the Barclay Arena in Brooklyn. Trust me, people will remember Jay-Z for hundreds of years. He is not your typical rapper.
