Candidly, he spoke to Oprah about the fact that he was the first person that the "I Will Always Love You" singer ever used drugs with -- not her husband Bobby Brown as many assumed.
"You gotta understand at the time ... the '80s ... it was acceptable," he said. "It's painful ... I feel responsible for what I let go so far."
Houston's death on Feb. 22 of last year was officially ruled as an "accidental drowning," but the coroner's report confirmed that she had used cocaine just prior to her death -- which led to cardiac disruption.
"I'm living, but I'm not alive without her. I felt responsible, I always have, always. I just felt like I should've took better care of her," he said.
The singer is survived by her siblings, her mother and her daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown.
