Beyonce, Super Bowl Blackout: Singer Not the Cause

NEW YORK (AP) - Don't blame Beyonce for blowing the lights out at the Super Bowl.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said Monday that the halftime show was not the cause of the power outage that darkened the Superdome for half an hour during Sunday's broadcast.

"There's no indication at all that this was caused by the halftime show. Absolutely not. I know that's been out there that this halftime show had something to do with it. That is not the case," Goodell said.
Beyonce was the halftime performer at Sunday night's game and used plenty of power to light up the stage.

Some had joked that her electrifying performance was to blame for the outage.

But the halftime show was running on its own generator, said Goodell and Doug Thornton, a vice president of SMG, the company that manages the Superdome.

"It was not on our power grid at all," Thornton said, adding that the metered power consumption went down during halftime because the house lights were down.

Beyonce's 13-minute set included hits "Crazy in Love," ''Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" and a Destiny's Child reunion.

The energetic performance was sung live days after she admitted she sang to a pre-recorded track at President Barack Obama's inauguration. And it won applause from critics who called it a major improvement over Madonna, who sang to a backing track last year, and the Black Eyed Peas' much-criticized halftime show in 2011.

Afterward, Beyonce announced "The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour" will kick off April 15 in Belgrade, Serbia. The European leg of the tour will wrap up May 29 in Stockholm, Sweden.

The tour's North American stint starts June 28 in Los Angeles and ends Aug. 3 in Brooklyn, N.Y., at the Barclays Center.

It was also announced Monday that a second wave of the tour is planned for Latin America, Australia and Asia later this year.

I don't think it's Beyonce's fault. Who would want to be the reason for a blackout in a blockbuster event of the year? It's just really technical and mechanical problem.

HONESTLY I DONT SEE WHAT ALL THE HYPE ABOUT BEYONCE IS. SHE IS JUST A ENTERTAINER NOTHING MORE NOTHING LESS! I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE AND THE MEDIA PUT HER ON A PEDESTAL, SHE ISNT A QUEEN BUT THINKS SHE IS BECAUSE OF THE ATTENTION PEOPLE GIVE HER. IM SO SICK OF HEARING BEYONCES NAME EVEN IN WHITE HOUSE EVENTS. THE SHEEP AND THE MEDIA FEED HER EGO MAKING HER THINK SHE IS BETTER THAN WHAT SHE IS. IM NOT HATING ON THE CHICK AT ALL IM JUST TELLING IT HOW I SEE IT. OUT OF ALL PEOPLE THEY PICKED HER? SERIOUSLY? BEYONCE HAS BEEN IN THE NEWS SINCE SHE STARTED HER CAREER. I HONESTLY CANT REMEMBER ONE DAY THIS WEEK OR LAST WEEK WHEN SHE WASNT IN THE DAMN NEWS. I DIDNT WATCH THE SUPER BOWL BUT SAW HER PICTURE ON THE COVER OF THE NEWSPAPER SO I KNEW SHE PERFORMED. I KNOW EVERYTHING THIS WOMAN DOES WITHOUT EVEN TRYING TO FIND OUT.

I DONT EVEN THINK HER SINGING IS ALL ITS MADE OUT TO BE, I WOULD PREFER TO SEE ALICIA KEYS PERFORM THAN BEYONCE. BEYONCE PUTS ON HER LITTLE LEOTARDS, SHAKES HER BUTT, SINGS A FEW NOTES AND PEOPLE CALL THAT TALENT. BEYONCE IS NOT A GOOD ROLE MODEL FOR YOUNG GIRLS, THE ONLY THING SHE SELLS HER AUDIENCE IS SEX.

I GUESS WHEN YOU HAVE BEAUTY AND A BODY YOU DONT REALLY HAVE TO HAVE ANY TALENT. WHY CANT SHE WEAR CLOTHES WHEN SHE PERFORMS? PEOPLE THAT HAVE REAL TALENT SHOULD NOT HAVE TO SHOW ALL THEIR GOODS. SHE IS A MOTHER NOW SO SHE NEEDS TO ACT LIKE ONE. HER AND RIHANNA ARE THE MOST TALKED ABOUT FEMALE PERFORMERS AND TO ME NEITHER ONE ARE THAT GOOD, THEY ARE BOTH DARK AND WEAR SLUTTY ATTIRE.

SHE NEEDS TO BE A MOTHER, SHE HAS MONEY SHE IS NOT HURTING FOR MONEY. HER HUBBY JAY OWNS A BASKETBALL TEAM FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! SHE'S JUST BEING GREEDY AND A ATTENTION *****, SHE CAN AFFORD TO TAKE SOME TIME OFF. EVER SINCE OBAMA BECAME PRESIDENT BEYONCE AND HER HUBBY HAVE BEEN KISSING UP TO THE OBAMAS FOR WHATEVER REASON. I DONT GET HOW THEY DONT ALLOW THEIR GIRLS TO WATCH THE KARDASHIANS BUT THEY MAKE FRIENDS WITH BEYONCE? NOT MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 2. BEYONCE IS ALSO A SATANIST, I WOULDNT BE SURPRISED IF HER DEMONIC PERFORMANCE CAUSED THE BLACKOUT. THE MEDIA ATTENTION FEEDS HER BIG EGO, AND THE PEOPLE AND AOL FEED RIGHT INTO IT.

Well of course it wasn't Beyonce's act that shut down power! Anyone who recalls the performance will also recall it started fluctuating when that base player had a minor solo and nothing came out of her guitar, not to mention several times Beyonce herself knew it was failing but like a true showman she just smiled and let the show go on! Those grids are tested and tested again and if anyone is in trouble it's the guy ( or gal ) who signed off saying that yes, the grids CAN withstand all that electricity-and not just from Beyonce's electrifying performance! Why would anyone want to make it seem like it was anyone's " fault "? It's an old venue, after Katrina all it really got was a facelift, a once over. A blackout in a 38 year old building can happen at any time! No blame and no shame and no apologies need be made. Everyone kept their heads and minus the short inconvenience it was a great Superbowl in all.

The most BORING halftime show ever. No one could understand a word she "sang" and the hair throwing, hip shaking, and weird facial expressions might have been comical if they weren't so awful. Even the inane talking heads during the blackout were better.

no kidding...does anyone think she is really that important? Every day there is something on her....I find it hard to understand how poeople can honor her and her husband JayZ...since he is a convicted drug dealer...not just charged or assumed..CONVICTED.....wonder how many children are dead now from the drugs he, himself, dealt...don't tell me he should be accepted now, I want to know if his dealing caused deaths....and the pres lets these people around their children...really great parents...just check the list of people always around them...have they no sense or decency?
