Eminem Hospitalized for Pneumonia

Eminem was rushed to a Detroit-area hospital over the holidays with what doctors called a heart condition and severe pneumonia. According to TMZ, the rapper, who has kept a low profile as of late, gained a considerable amount of weight and is currently more than 200 lbs. It is unclear whether the weight gain is related to his health problems but he seems to be doing fine. According to a source, the '8 Mile' star has "been released and is doing well recovering at home." Read the full story. ...

Pharrell to Produce Reality TV Show

The multifaceted Pharrell Williams and the Neptunes, have made an indelible mark in the world of music production. Crafting hits like Nelly's 'Hot in Herre' have won the duo three Grammys. Now, Pharrell is looking to add television producer to his resume with the upcoming ABC project 'Limelight.' "This project reminded me a lot of my own life growing up, " the N*E*R*D singer told Variety of the drama, which will focus on talented students at a NYC performing arts school. "Coming from a different environment where we stuck out for having abilities that we later learned, after attending a school like this, were actually gifts and talents." Fellow 'Limelight' producer McG seemed thrilled about the 34-year-old talent's involvement in the show. "Pharrell is the ultimate embodiment of credibility in this space," he said. "He attended a performing arts high school and went on to become the most prolific producer of our generation." ...

How Fiddy Got His Name

The evolution of a stage name is usually an interesting story. Eminem, for example, was taken from the rapper's real initials: (M)arshall (M)athers. 50 Cent -- real name Curtis James Jackson III -- adopted his stage name to preserve the legacy of an infamous Brooklyn robber who earned the nickname from robbing just about anyone, even if all they had was spare change. "I'm the same kind of person 50 Cent was," the rapper told AOL Music on a visit to Sessions, "I provide for myself by any means." But how did he get from "50 Cent" to "Fiddy"? Eccentric manager-turned-TV star Sharon Osbourne coined the abbreviated version. "My name was 50 Cent until Sharon Osbourne said 'Fiddy' at the BET Awards," the rapper said. "Then it changed. After that, it was either/or, depending on how people feel!" ...

Witness Admits Lying in B.I.G. Murder Case

It's been more than 10 years since the Notorious B.I.G.'s untimely death and questions, not to mention numerous conspiracy theories, still remain about the what went down the night of March 9, 1997. Now, a key witness in Biggie's murder trial is speaking out. Former R&B artist Waymond Anderson, currently serving a life sentence for an unrelated murder case, is conceding that during his testimony, he lied about the involvement of two members of the Los Angeles police department in the rapper's murder. According to his deposition, Anderson originally fingered former officers Rafael Perez and David Mackin to receive a portion of the settlement from B.I.G.'s family and their lawyer. "I don't know David Mack, I don't know Rafael Perez," Anderson said in the deposition reported in the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday. "It was a lie, and I'm ashamed of it." Read the full story. ...

Dr. Dre to Finish 'Detox' and Retire

Dr. Dre will retire in 2008. But first, he'll release one final album, his first in eight years, called 'Detox.' And then there's that little matter of two more months work on Eminem's upcoming album. "I think it's time to move on," the 42-year-old rap icon told the Los Angeles Times, calling rhyming "a young man's game." Dre isn't abandoning the rap game entirely. He's a self-professed studio addict. "Lots of producers have hits, but he does far more than that, Interscope Records chief Jimmy Iovine said, "He's a creator who has moved popular culture three times ... with gangsta rap, G-funk and Eminem." ...

Looking extremely buff, the gangsta rap pioneer surfaced at the VMAs earlier this month, where he talked about "being the best" and hinted at his new project before presenting Rihanna with the Video of the Year award for 'Umbrella.'

He is still two or three tracks away from declaring 'Detox' finished, and there's no firm date yet for its release, but fans can look forward to Dr. Dre's swan song in early '08.

After more than three years since the release of his platinum-selling, Grammy-nominated album 'Encore,' Eminem is ready to get back in the rap game. "Im always in the studio," he told New York's Hot 97 Thursday when he called in during the radio station's interview with 50 Cent, and cited "personal things" as the reason he's been gone for so long. Ice Cube to Make 'Comeback' With Fred Durst

Just in time for the '07-'08 NFL and college football frenzy, Variety is reporting that Dimension Films will start production on 'Comeback,' a sports drama about the first-ever female quarterback in Pop Warner (read: little league) football history. Ice Cube will produce and star in the film, which former Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst is "in negotiations to direct." Durst made his directorial debut with the indie film 'The Education of Charlie Banks,' which is due out this year. The controversial rock-rapper was also hired to direct the 2005 Heath Ledger skater movie 'Lords of Dogtown,' but backed out of the project for reasons unknown. Ice Cube -- a.k.a. O'Shea Jackson -- will play a former high school football star and uncle to Jasmine Plummer, the 11-year-old girl who lead her team to the Pop Warner tournament. ...From 'Boyz 'n the Hood' to 'Higher Learning' and the 'Friday,' 'Barbershop' and 'Are We There Yet' franchises, Ice Cube has made quite a name for himself in Hollywood. His involvement with 'Comeback' comes on the heels of announcing his involvement in the film adaptation of the Shannon Eric Denton and Keith Giffen graphic novel '10' last week.

Foxy Brown Goes to Jail After Probation Violation

Foxy Brown -- real name: Inga Marchand -- was as sent to jail Wednesday morning by a Manhattan judge after violating the terms of her probation. The 27-year-old rapper will remain in jail until her next hearing, which is scheduled for Sept. 7 in New York. The violation stems from two incidents: Brown's recent arrest for allegedly assaulting her neighbor with a Blackberry and leaving New York jurisdiction without permission. If you're one for heresay, Brown's incarceration couldn't come at a more inopportune time. According to a New York Post columnist, she told customers in a Bed Bath & Beyond earlier this month that she was "getting married" and "pregnant." Busta Rhymes Gets Sued for Assault

Perpetually in trouble with the law, Busta Rhymes faces yet another legal battle -- his fifth in one year. Rhymes, whose real name is Trevor Smith, is being sued by 20-year-old Robert LeBron, who claims that the rapper and his crew assaulted him after he spit on a car belonging to someone in the group. Rappers Ja Rule and Lil Wayne separately managed to get themselves into trouble with the New York City's finest Sunday night, after performing at the Beacon Theater. Lil Wayne, ak.a. Dwayne Carter, who guests on Ja Rule's latest track 'Uh Ohhhh,' was arrested after police found him and another man smoking marijuana outside of Wayne's tour bus on 61st and Columbus Avenue. The rapper was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon. ...

An hour earlier, Ja Rule, a.k.a. Jeff Atkins, was riding with three other men in a Luxury Sedan on West End Avenue when cops stopped them for speeding. All involved were arrested when police found an illegal .40-caliber gun in the vehicle.

Kim Porter has left the building -- Diddy's apartment building, that is. After 10 years of dating, three children together and three name changes on Diddy's part, it seems that the pair have decided to part ways. "She is focusing on her career as a model and actress and raising her children," Page Six's source said, adding that Combs and Porter "are the best of friends, but they just can't be together right now." ...

Porter, 36, is reportedly taking their children (Christian, 10, and 7-month-old twins, D'Lila and Jessie) to Los Angeles, while Sean "Diddy" Combs, 37, is busy fighting those pesky Sienna Miller rumors. A representative for Combs denies that his relationship with Miller led to the couples demise. A rep for Miller also denies any romantic involvement with Diddy.

From Hot Boy to solo artist, and from Cash Money mogul to ... reality star? Yes, folks. Lil Wayne is getting shot -- by cameras, that is. The 'Fireman's' latest venture is an online reality series called 'Making the Next Hit! With Lil Wayne.' The project finds the rapper, along with hosts MC Busy Bee and Pit, embarking on a 27-city search for the top new producers, models, singers, comedians and rappers in the country. ...During Lil Wayne's visit to AOL Sessions last year, we asked him if he'd ever consider doing a reality show. After all, several of his fellow rappers -- Diddy, Flavor Flav and Run-DMC's Reverend Run, to name a few -- have tackled the reality realm. "The only way I would consider [it is] if it was about money," the N'Awlins rapper responded. "And at the end, I end up with the money."

Cash Money Records will have first right of refusal in signing the winner of the show, so ... mission accomplished. Sort of.

'Making the Next Hit!' will air beginning in January via the new Web channel, theNext.tv.
