The lyrical onslaught began Dec. 1 and will end on New Year's Eve. Christening the 31-track project, 'The Freeway Change,' the Philadelphia emcee aims to counteract a hip-hop culture he feels has "become more dependent on sales, marketing and imaging, rather than the quality and value of the music itself." During each release, Freeway will closely monitor fan feedback and adjust his content accordingly. If successful, he plans to follow up with another "Month of Madness" or possibly a full length album. The songs can be downloaded at no charge each day from Free's own website, www.thefreewaychange.com. The first song to begin the campaign is titled "Month of Madness," and is available for download now. ...

The Clipse Launch Play Cloths, Release New Mixtape

Two of the Clipse's biggest pending projects are coming closer to completion. The first is their highly anticipated clothing line, Play Cloths, which will be hitting stores this Friday. The new line was originally announced last December and was scheduled for a summer release this year. Play Cloths was created with the help of designer Doug Life, and as Malice puts it, is "all about trying to recreate the whole feeling of trying to get that fly s---." The fabrics are considered a blend of American style, with French Riviera and Monte Carlo uses of rich, vibrant primary colors to create collectible garments. The Clipse have also announced a tentative March 2009 release date for their Columbia Records debut. The album 'Till The Casket Drops' will be a collaborative effort between the group's Re-Up Gang Records imprint and their latest label home. The album will reportedly feature production from Timbaland, Kanye West, Danja and Dame Grease as well as contributions from Diddy's production team The Hitmen. To please their eager fans, the Clipse are releasing the mixtape, 'Road To Till The Casket Drops,' which will be available for free download on Dec. 1. ...

Damon Dash Dead Broke?

Former co-founder of Rocafella Records and Rocawear clothing line, Damon Dash, has been hit with several multi-million dollar lawsuits. The once-heralded music mogul, Keds owner, and vodka distributor faced seizers of both his trendy Tribeca condos and a Chevy Tahoe. The $7.3 million dollar condos were foreclosed by Eastern Savings Bank for a non-payment of $78,504 over the course of several months. The bleeding doesn't stop there. Dash, 37, is also staring down a $2.1 million dollar tab from the NY State Department of Taxation and Finance, a $4,500 bill from the state for not paying workers' compensation and another lawsuit claiming he still owes a debt to the law firm that handled his child custody case. Dash has not publicly responded to these claims, but his spokesperson Amanda Silverman claims the former-mogul "won all of his lawsuits." Court documents paint another picture. The courts show Dash settled two suits accusing him of not paying rent on two New York offices, as well as suits charging he owed large sums to fashion designer Charlotte Ronson, popular fashion firm Showroom Seven and a celebrity security guard company. ...

Jason Gabbard, a lawyer representing Showroom Seven, recently settled a lawsuit against Dash and his wife for over $148,505 in unpaid fees. "I've worked with musicians, artists and entertainers that in the eyes of the media are very wealthy," Gabbard said. "But to borrow a phrase from my Kentucky homeland, they haven't got a pot to p--- in - they're broke."
The initial stateside tour, which currently features Raphael Saadiq, begins on Nov. 19 in Minneapolis and wraps Dec. 13 in Durham, N.C. As the first artist signed to John Legend's newly created Homeschool Records, Estelle has achieved major acclaim overseas and her transition to the states has been equally as successful. The singer, who joins Legend on the reggae-tinged 'No Other Love' off 'Evolver,' is just one of many artists to take the stage alongside Legend. Andre 3000, Brandy and Kanye West are scheduled to join the second leg, which kicks off Jan. 12 in Oakland. ...
