Theo Wargo, Getty Images In the heat of criticism for a lyric referencing date rape drugs in his contribution to Rocko's "U.N.E.N.O." track featuring Future, Rick Ross apologized via Twitter. Ross had already addressed the offensive lyric, but hadn't really apologized -- as Complex reported, Ross said of the lyric, "Woman is the most precious gift known to man ... The term 'rape' wasn't used, and I would never use the term 'rape' in my records. We don't condone rape and I'm not with that." If what Ross says is true, that doesn't explain how "with that" the lyric makes him out to be. ...

"I don't condone rape," he tweeted today. "Apologies for the lyric interpreted as rape." No comment yet on how else we are meant to interpret it.

According to the Christian Post, the lyric in question has resulted in calls for Reebok to drop Ross as a business partner, as well as a planned protest outside Reebok's flagship store.

He followed up his initial apology tweet with one directed at Reebok (and UltraViolet, one of the activist groups calling for his social and financial exile).

"Apologies to my many business partners, who would never promote violence against women," he wrote.

The lyric goes: "Put molly all in her champagne, she ain't even know it / I took her home and I enjoyed that, she ain't even know it." That sounds pretty rapey to us.

Apologizing on Twitter certainly doesn't make up for it (especially since the apology could've easily been prompted by the possibility of losing his deal with Reebok). It's in the song; the damage is done. But hell, at least he apologized.

The music fest will take over a crop of NYC venues including Mercury Lounge, Bowery Ballroom, Pianos, and the Cake Shop. And for the first time ever, the festival will be hitting up Philadelphia, Toronto, Boston, Los Angeles, Denver and Las Vegas to spread the best new blood in hip-hop and R&B across the nation.

Funny or Die Notorious B.I.G. and white suburbia don't have much in common, but put the two together and you get hilarious results. "The Smalls Family" is a new web series by Funny or Die user davecat, which shows the inner workings of a nuclear family, with the caveat that they only speak in lyrics from Notorious B.I.G. tracks, including "Warning," "Big Poppa" and "Going Back to Cali." Blasphemous? Maybe a little, but we're sure you can handle it. ...

And while Biggie's lyrics aren't usually good for a laugh, that's what we love about Funny or Die -- they can (and do) take pretty much any bizarro concept and make it funny. Or they die. That's how Funny or Die works, right?

Elle.com Boom! No special effects required: Nicki Minaj is killing it on this cover. Our favorite source of colorful controversy took some time away from her busy schedule as a rapper and "American Idol" judge to pose in a stunning cover editorial for Elle magazine's April 2013 issue. ...

With nothing but black pants, a leather jacket, beach babe hair, and -- for the first time we can recall -- no bubblegum pink lipstick or other over-the-top makeup choices, Nicki has probably never looked so good.

Even the "Starships" singer had to adjust to the transformation, telling the mag that going makeup-free for the shoot was difficult.

"When I saw myself with barely any makeup at, it was such a ... like, I'm so, so attached to my pink lipstick, it's hard," she tells Elle. "I feel that it's become a part of me. To go in front of the camera, without pink lips or big ol' crazy lashes -- you know, nothing -- I felt naked. It was scary! So this photo shoot was a real accomplishment in my eyes."

Honestly, Nicki should consider taking the make-under route more often. Not only is she naturally babely, but this look seriously suits the rawness of her rap game.

According to TMZ, DMX's 5-month-old daughter was in the backseat of his 1978 Buick when he was pulled over and booked.

The veteran rapper has a history of arrests for traffic violations, but don't consider this a return to the rapper's checkered past. Last year, X announced he'd "devoted his life to God and become a church deacon."

Roc Nation Multi-platinum hitmaker Timbaland has signed a management deal with Jay-Z's Roc Nation, according to an announcement posted on the company's website yesterday. News of the deal comes on the heels of the release of the producer/hip-hop artist's latest work, Justin Timberlake's new track, "Suit & Tie" (featuring Jay-Z). ...

Timbaland, who is signed with Interscope, is one of many big-name artists added to Roc Nation's roster recently. He joins the ranks of fellow hip-hop/R&B superstars Rihanna, Mark Ronson, Jay Electronica, and M.I.A., as well as lesser known acts like Meek Mill and Casey Veggies, among others.

While it's exciting news, it's worth noting that Timbaland has been on something of a cold streak. Until the release of JT's latest, it's been difficult to pinpoint a recent hit record worked on by the VA native. 2007 seems like a lifetime ago.

Which means that ultimately this announcement may be much ado about nothing. Or, it could mean the hip-hop giant has got more boundary-pushing projects on the horizon. Regardless, we'll keep you posted.
