Will.I.Am Explains Inspiration for Obama 'Yes We Can' Video

One of the hottest viral videos on the web this week has nothing to do with Britney Spears, Amy Winehouse, stupid pet tricks or naked starlets. It's Will.I.Am's 'Yes We Can' video, a clip built around a speech by Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. The video, which features Scarlett Johansson, Common, John Legend, Nicole Scherzinger, Herbie Hancock, basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, actress Kate Walsh and more, has received over 10 million views, including two-and-a-half million on YouTube.

"It was just a knock in the head to remember that it's not black and white," Black Eyed Peas frontman Will.I.Am tells AOL Music at the annual Peapod show. "That speech, the 'Yes we can' speech -- he has a lot of speeches that are great [like] Super Tuesday's speech: 'We are the ones we've been waiting for' -- those words are inspirational to me. They inspire you to want to change yourself," the rapper recalls.

Like many of the artists supporting Obama, Will is driven by a need for change and the multi-faceted artist subscribes to the belief that all races could use the same resolutions. "It's one thing to say, 'Let's change,' but it's only going to change if its citizens realize that there's no difference between me and you, regardless if you're white and I'm black," Will explains.

"It has nothing to do with race, it's just acknowledging that we're Americans and facing the challenges we have as a nation to recover from the situation that we're in financially, educationally, health-wise ... It just made me believe that we can change. In the world of politics there's been so many promises, so many adverts that promote it and then here we are. But being inspired to do so, when certain words come across you, words of hope and done in a way to where you know you can do it, that's how it struck a chord."

Akon Celebrates Grammy Nods, Amy Winehouse

Thursday's Grammy nominations were good to Akon, who, in addition to announcing nominees racked up four nods for himself. "I wasn't surprised by the nomination," he told PopEater. "I was surprised by four nominations. I was like, 'Yo, if I get one I'm good.' To have four is crazy."

As if the impressive number of nominations weren't enough of a thrill. Akon also got the one he most wanted. "Best R&B Album -- that's the one I prayed for," he said. "And I was just happy to be nominated. That just shows how far you've really come. Everything that you've done -- anything that you've accomplished -- has now been manifested with people recognizing your true talent. I always thought I was talented, but no one ever feels the way you feel. Everyone thinks they're the best, so this is huge."

Of his fellow nominees, Akon was particularly excited for Amy Winehouse. "I was surprised to see how big of a night it's going to be for Amy Winehouse," he said. "She's definitely one of them artists where I saw myself in [her]. We got brand-new music, brand-new sound, [and] it's taken a minute for people to understand it."

Kanye West, Evel Knievel Settle Lawsuit

Kanye West and Evel Knievel have finally squashed their beef. The two settled a federal lawsuit over the use of the motorcycle stuntman's image in the video for West's 'Touch the Sky,' off 2005's 'Graduation.'

The daredevil was not pleased when he saw "Evel Kanyevel" parody his attempt to jump a rocket-powered motorcycle over a canyon in the music video, which featured actresses Pamela Anderson, Nia Long and Tracee Ellis Ross. The 69-year-old claimed the video's "vulgar and offensive" images damaged his reputation.

After a meeting of the minds, which reportedly took place at Knievel's home in Clearwater, Florida, the two sides have reached an agreement they're both pleased with.

"We settled the lawsuit amicably," Knievel told the Associated Press. "I was very satisfied and so was he."

Janet Jackson to Release New Album in February

Pop superstar Janet Jackson is gearing up to release her upcoming as-yet-untitled album in February. Jackson is currently working on the album in Atlanta, while longtime boyfriend, producer Jermaine Dupri, lends a hand to Mariah Carey's forthcoming project.

In addition to dropping a new album, Jackson also plans to pen a book about her personal weight struggles. "[I'm] really coming from the soul with it," Jackson said of the project, "and what I was going through at different times in my life, and what possibly brought it about for myself."

The 41-year-old has also been keeping busy with movie roles, including her recent role in Tyler Perry's film ' Why Did I Get Married?'

Usher's Wife Tameka Gives Birth to Baby Boy

Usher and wife, Tameka Foster, welcomed the Grammy-winner's first child -- Tameka's fourth -- Monday night in Atlanta, according to PEOPLE. The R&B star's wife gave birth to a baby boy, who's expected to share the same name as the proud father.

The 29-year-old singer/actor spilled the beans and confirmed rumors that Tameka was expecting a boy in late September. "I just want my son to fully be coherent and to be healthy, first and foremost," he told PEOPLE at his fragrance launch party in New York City.

The couple tied the knot in a civil ceremony in Usher's attorney's office on August 3, before exchanging vows in a more elaborate setting in front of 200 guests -- which reportedly did not include Usher's mother -- at the Chateau Elan Winery & Resort on September 1.

Donda West's Last Words to a Friend Revealed

Donda West's last words to a friend were revealed in a voicemail message obtained exclusively by Inside Edition. In the message, Kanye West's mother discusses her surgery plans to her hairdresser, Charlay Thomas, just one day before going under the knife:

"I am going to go have my procedure done tomorrow and I'm getting every single thing from my neck to my knees! So, anyway, call me. I'll tell you about that ..."

The 58-year-old died on November 10, the day after plastic surgeon Jan Adams performed a abdominplasty -- commonly known as a tummy tuck -- and breast reduction. An autopsy was performed, but a full report is not expected for another six weeks.

In the meantime, Dr. Adams is under investigation by the California medical board for recent reports of alcohol-related arrests and malpractice lawsuits. Read the full story.

Donda West's Plastic Surgeon Walks Off 'Larry King'

After speaking out in an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Dr. Jan Adams -- the plastic surgeon who operated on Kanye West's mother, Donda West, the day before her sudden death -- appeared on CNN's 'Larry King Live' for a brief moment on Tuesday, before awkwardly and abruptly walking off the show's set.

"I have a tremendous amount of love and respect for the West family. They asked me not to go on. And I've said from the very beginning, I don't have a side in this," Adams said before removing his microphone and earpiece. "They are my side, and I'm going to respect their wishes. I'm going to apologize to you because I think I'm taking up your air time, but I will not be on the show and I'm not going to discuss any of that. I'm going to honor their wishes."

Adams' recent concern for the West family could be the result of a letter he received prior to appearing on the program advising him against discussing West's death.

"To the extent there are issues about even why he's here, why this is in the media, it relates to the relationship he had with his patient," Alan Tenenbaum, one of West's attorneys, told King. "So until he gets clearance from the family, I don't think it would be fair or right for him to talk about these things."

Suge Knight Added as New Defendant in B.I.G. Lawsuit

A federal judge has ruled that new defendants -- including Death Row Records CEO Marion "Suge" Knight -- may be allowed in the wrongful-death lawsuit filed by the late Notorious B.I.G.'s estate.

Thanks to Judge Florence-Marie Cooper, the lawsuit may be amended due to newly discovered evidence. The suit, which accuses the Los Angeles Police Department and former officer David Mack of killing the New York rapper in 1997, will now include Rafael Perez -- Mack's former partner -- and Reggie Wright Jr., another L.A. cop.

According to Judge Cooper, new evidence shows Perez was on duty the night B.I.G. was shot while leaving a party at Los Angeles' Petersen Automotive Museum.

Donda West's Doctor Opens Up About Her Death

Dr. Jan Adams, who performed the abdominoplasty and breast reduction on Kanye West's mother before her untimely death, is now speaking out on the incidents that lead to the 58-year-old's death.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Dr. Adams suggests Donda West may have overdosed on Vicodin, which he prescribed for her post-surgery. Adams told the Times, West "probably [had] a rough night," and complained of pain the next morning. That's one speculation on my part."

What may seem like a low blow during this time of tragedy for the West family can also be viewed as Dr. Adams attempt at damage control. The plastic surgeon's livelihood is in jeopardy now that the Medical Board of California is investigating recent reports of alcohol-related arrests and malpractice lawsuits.

"Yes, there have been some malpractice suits," Adams admits. "But 99% of them are what we in this business call nuisance suits."

"There's a level of selfishness that exists, and we as a system are telling people it's OK to think of yourself as a victim. And the real answer is they're not victims."

An autopsy was performed last week, but a full report will not be available for up to eight weeks, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner's office.

Kanye West Breaks Down During Performance

Kanye West was overcome with grief during a performance in Paris on Saturday, just one week after the death of his mother Donda West. The producer/rapper broke into tears while attempting to pay tribute to his late mother -- who died November 10 of complications resulting from plastic surgery -- with the song, 'Hey Mama,' off 2005's 'Late Registration.'

"He just cracked," a concertgoer told PEOPLE. "He was at the end of his concert and had just started to dedicate the song and then he just lost it completely."

After a 60-minute set, West stood quietly onstage while the beginning of the usually celebratory track 'Hey Mama' began. He appeared to sob and was consoled by the guitar player, DJ and a backup singer. The rapper left the stage and returned 10 minutes later to wrap up the show with the single 'Stronger.'

While West continued to fulfill performance commitments in Paris, faculty members, students and friends gathered Friday to pay their respects to the former professor at Chicago State University.

Funeral services for West are scheduled for November 17 in her hometown of Oklahoma City.

Kanye West Grieves, Cancels Victoria's Secret Performance

As expected, Kanye West canceled a scheduled performance at the Victoria's Secret Fashion show, due to the sudden death of his mother, Dr. Donda West. The producer/rapper was set to take the stage for the event, which will air December 4 on CBS, but backed out, leaving the Spice Girls as the only musical guest.

Dr. West died last weekend in Los Angeles after undergoing an abdominoplasty -- commonly known as a tummy tuck -- and breast reduction. Officials, however, are still unsure whether the surgery caused the 58-year-old's death. An autopsy was performed Tuesday, but a full report will not be available for six to eight weeks, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner's office.

In the meantime, Dr. Jan Adams, who operating on West, is catching flack after a Beverly Hills surgeon admitted to refusing to perform the surgery, due to an undisclosed preexisting condition. Dr. Adams is also said to be in trouble with the Medical Board of California after records of DUI arrests, malpractice lawsuits and a domestic violence-related restraining order have surfaced.

T.I. Files Motion to Host Thanksgiving Dinner

Attorneys for T.I. filed a motion in federal court requesting that the Atlanta-based rapper be allowed to host Thanksgiving dinner at his Jonesboro home. T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris Jr., is currently under house arrest while awaiting trial on federal weapons charges.

The ex-convict was arrested on October 13, when he allegedly tried to purchase machine guns and silencers in a Walgreens parking lot in midtown Atlanta. As a condition of his release, Harris is allowed no more than three approved visitors at a time, with the exception of his girlfriend and children.

Harris is requesting that a judge approve a group of visitors on November 22, between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. The rap star has also asked the judge to allow workers to come and clean his home in preparation for the possible celebration. If approved, Harris will be required to beef up security and pay for additional guards.

Meanwhile, the rapper-turned-actor can be seen enjoying Thanksgiving dinner with Denzel Washington in a scene from his latest flick, 'American Gangster.'

Diddy Cleared in Recent Nightclub Assault

Sean 'Diddy' Combs has avoided charges in yet another nightclub incident. According to Combs' attorney, Benjamin Brafman, the mogul will not face criminal charges for allegedly punching a man after an argument at SoHo hotspot, Kiosk, on October 13.

"Both Mr. Combs and I are pleased that the DA's office and the police department conducted a very thorough investigation and came to this conclusion," Brafman said. Throughout the investigation, both Brafman and Combs have claimed that the incident was merely a "private disagreement between two acquaintances."

The alleged victim, Steven Acevedo, has also downplayed the matter by requesting that the hip-hop mogul not be jailed while insisting that he was assaulted. "Steven Acevedo was definitely violated without legal provication in the presence of witnesses. Had he chosen to vigorously pursue his right, he surely would have prevailed in a court of law," Acevedo's lawyer, Mark Heller, said in a statement to MTV.

If arrested and charged, Combs could've faced a third-degree misdemeanor assault charge.

Snoop Gets Spooked by Amy Winehouse

Snoop Dogg, the host of this year's MTV Europe Music Awards, stopped by to meet Amy Winehouse an hour and a half before the show began. What the D-O-double-G found when he arrived at her dressing room scared the hell out of him.

The rap icon walked in to discover what the Mirror called "thousands of pounds' worth of damage to her dressing room." According to the British tab, Winehouse threw a plate of spaghetti bolognese, fruit, tables and chairs across the room. Even the carpet was torn to shreds.

A member of Snoop's entourage said that the rapper was shocked by Winehouse's behavior. "He was pretty freaked out by it and didn't want to hang out with her after that." After her outburst, the beehived star performed at the award show, delivering what most observers would say was a less-than-stellar performance of 'Back to Black.'

Jay-Z's Rocawear Signs Deal With Elizabeth Arden

Jay-Z's Rocawear clothing label has inked a licensing deal with cosmetics giant Elizabeth Arden. In March 2007, Jay-Z sold the urban clothing label, which he created with former business partners Damon Dash and Kareem 'Biggs' Burke in 1999, to Iconix Brand Group for a reported $204 million, however the mogul continues to oversee development of the brand and has retained his share in the company.

"One reason we were motivated to be with Rocawear was because we liked the concept of the fashion brand," said Ron Rolleston, executive vice president of Arden. "Also, people love Jay-Z. He has a clear vision of who he is, and we believe that will resonate with a young male consumer, then with women."

Jay-Z also expressed excitement about collaborating with the beauty empire. "We are excited to partner with an industry giant such as Elizabeth Arden," Jay-Z said. "The combination of their expertise in fragrance and our ability to affect popular culture will produce some incredible products and breathe excitement into the category."

The partnership will produce men's and women's fragrances, which could be available next fall, along with skin care products and cosmetics.
