R. Kelly Trial: The Defense Rests Without Testimony From Singer or Victim

R. Kelly's defense team rested their case Monday after just two days and 12 witnesses. The Grammy award-winning singer did not take the stand in the child pornography case surrounding an infamous sex tape allegedly starring Kelly and an underage girl.

The prosecution is expected to call two rebuttal witnesses today. Forensics expert Grant Fredericks will be called back to the stand to testify whether the defense's video expert Charles Palm could accurately testify that he could not see the questionable mole/dark spot. The prosecution will also recall Atlanta prosecutor Robert Wolf, who's expected to testify that the fiance of the prosecution's star witness Lisa Van Allen was not offered a deal in exchange for Van Allen's testimony.

Kelly is charged with 14 counts of child pornography. If convicted, the singer faces up to 15 years in prison.

R. Kelly Trial: Defense Attempts to Crush Mole Theory

Having gone on for six years, the R. Kelly case is full of interesting twists and turns. Earlier this week it was reported that the singer's former manager and uncle of the alleged victim, Barry Hankerson, was the the man who initially sent the sex tape to Chicago Sun Times music critic Jim DeRogatis, who in turn broke the story and turned the evidence over to the feds. DeRogatis was called to testify on Wednesday and invoked his Fifth Amendment several times.

"I respectfully decline to answer the question on the advice of counsel, on the grounds that to do so would contravene the reporter's privilege, the special witness doctrine, my rights under the Illinois Constitution, and the First and Fifth Amendments of the United States Constitution," the journalist said repeatedly.

R. Kelly Trial: Relatives Claim Victim Isn't in Tape, Defense Team Discredit Star Witness

Relatives of the alleged victim in the R. Kelly child pornography case took the stand Wednesday and denied that their relative is the same girl that appears in the infamous sex tape. Four family members testified earlier in the case that the underage girl is in fact their relative.

Leroy Edwards Jr., the alleged victim's uncle, admitted during cross examination that the high profile case has split their family in half. The victim's cousin, Shonna Edwards, 27, took the stand and testified that she doesn't recognize the female in the sex tape. "It definitely wasn't her," Edwards claimed, adding that the girl -- who would've been about 13 years old when the tape was made -- was too developed to be their relative.

R. Kelly Trial: Prosecution Rests After Shocking Testimony From Star Witness

According to the prosecution's star witness, Lisa Van Allen, not only did R. Kelly film himself having sex with an underage girl, but the Grammy award-winning singer traveled with a duffel bag full of homemade sex tapes at all times. "Wherever he was at, the [duffel] bag would follow," Van Allen said during her testimony on Monday. The 27-year-old witness also claimed she was present for the taping of some of Kelly's sexual encounters with minors.

Van Allen described one instance where she cried during a tryst. "He got upset and said he couldn't watch that. He couldn't do anything with that, with me crying. He stopped the camera," Van Allen said.

Forensics Expert Pokes Hole in R. Kelly's Mole Defense

Forensics expert Grant Fredericks poked a hole in R. Kelly's defense when he identified a dark spot on the back of the man featured in the infamous sex tape. R. Kelly's own defense attorney brought the mole to the court's attention during his opening statements in the child pornography case when he declared that the man in the tape -- which the defense claims is not Kelly, but instead a digitally altered image of the singer's likeness -- does not have a mole on his back.

"Either Robert isn't the man on that tape or he's a magician -- because there's no mole," attorney Sam Adam Jr. proclaimed.

On Thursday, Fredericks testified that there is in fact a dark spot on the man's back that corresponds with the mole on Kelly's back. Fredericks compared the still of the man's back in the sex tape to police photos of the Grammy award-winning singer's back and claimed that the spot was "in the exact same position." Fredericks went on to testify that it would have been virtually impossible for someone to have digitally altered Kelly's image in the 30 minute, 100,000 frame film. The expert claims it would've taken someone 44 years to alter the 41-year-old singer's image in every single frame. Read the full story.

R. Kelly Trial Interrupted By Surprise Witness

R. Kelly's trial for child pornography charges took a strange turn Wednesday. Testimony was abruptly halted when the defense informed the court that a surprise witness voluntarily came forward and is expected to testify.

The new witness could potentially throw a monkey wrench in the prosecution's case, though there's been no word on what the unidentified man's relationship is to Kelly, the victim, or the prosecution's key witness -- an Atlanta woman who was scheduled take the stand yesterday and testify that she had a threesome with the Grammy award-winning singer and an underage girl.

"I have no idea what's going on," Judge Vincent Gaughan admitted. "But it might be impeachment of this witness."

Kelly was slapped with child pornography charges in 2002 for allegedly videotaping himself having sex with a minor. If convicted, the crooner could face up to 15 years in prison.

Witnesses Identify Alleged Victim in R. Kelly Trial

Four witness positively identified the alleged victim in R. Kelly's child pornography case on Wednesday. A childhood friend of the alleged victim, the friend's father and two other relatives of the victim testified that they recognize the victim from the infamous sex tape.

Prosecutors put the victim's longtime friend Simha Jamison, 24, on the stand. Jamison, who's known the victim for over 10 years, claims she and the victim would visit Kelly at his recording studio when they were just 12 years old. Jamison testified that her friend originally introduced the singer as her "godfather," adding that Kelly was known for giving the victim monetary gifts. The victim continues to deny that she's the underage girl featured in the sex tape at the center of the trial.
