Linkin Park, Common Lead Sunset Strip Block Party

A little into their set at the intimate Key Club, Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda gave the understatement of the night when he said, "I guess we should thank the folks at SanDisk for putting this on." The data storage company celebrated their newest foray into music by taking over three venerable Sunset Strip hotspots -- the Key Club, Roxy and Viper Room -- for one of the most ambitious parties L.A. has seen in some time.

After earlier sets by the Crystal Method and Cut Chemist, LP returned to their L.A. roots, playing the Key Club for the first time in what they estimated to be eight years. The rockers ran through an hour-long performance featuring a bevy of hits from 'In the End,' 'Crawling' and a beautiful rendition of 'Pushing Me Away,' that featured Mike Shinoda on keyboards accompanying a cast-wearing Chester Bennington, who broke his arm recently in Australia.

Following their set, the assembled press and VIPs filed down the street to the Roxy for an energetic after midnight set by Common that paid tribute to old-school hip-hop, with name-checks from Snoop to Dre.

Busta Rhymes Rocks Out With Linkin Park

Busta Rhymes is teaming up with Linkin Park on the track 'It Looks Like We Made It' on his upcoming album, 'Back on My BS,' due December 4.

Rhymes isn't the first rap star to collaborate with the rockers; Jay-Z and Linkin Park joined forces for 2004's mash-up album 'Collision Course.' Busta hopes to draw on the success of the rap-rock stage set by Jigga with the Cool and Dre-produced track.

"This song speaks volumes to the globe -- it ain't just about the 'hood, it ain't just about the suburbs, it's about everybody," Busta told Rolling Stone. "This is one of those songs that can't be described better than touching the souls of common people."

Ice Cube to Make 'Comeback' With Fred Durst

Just in time for the '07-'08 NFL and college football frenzy, Variety is reporting that Dimension Films will start production on 'Comeback,' a sports drama about the first-ever female quarterback in Pop Warner (read: little league) football history.

Ice Cube will produce and star in the film, which former Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst is "in negotiations to direct." Durst made his directorial debut with the indie film 'The Education of Charlie Banks,' which is due out this year. The controversial rock-rapper was also hired to direct the 2005 Heath Ledger skater movie 'Lords of Dogtown,' but backed out of the project for reasons unknown.

Ice Cube -- a.k.a. O'Shea Jackson -- will play a former high school football star and uncle to Jasmine Plummer, the 11-year-old girl who lead her team to the Pop Warner tournament.

Linkin Park's Environmental Projekt Revolution

Linkin Park are no strangers to the green scene. Following the 2004 Southeast Asia tsunami tragedy, the group founded Music for Relief, an environmentally conscious organization that calls upon the music community fight global warming. Continuing with their efforts, and just on the heels of Live Earth, this year's Projekt Revolution tour will place its emphasis on environmental education.

"Let's say the worst case scenario is that there is no connection [between global warming and natural disasters], and it's just the way that the world is moving and we're not contributing to it," Bennington said at a press conference last week. "But at the same time, what's the worst thing that could happen? We'd have cleaner air, less greenhouse gases going into the atmosphere and people are using less energy."

Gene Simmons Hates on Hip-Hop

Kiss bassist/ groupie slayer Gene Simmons recent turned his sinister tongue on music's current crop of rappers. In an exclusive interview with allhiphop.com, Simmons said he said he'd "like to hear a rapper who can really speak English exceedingly well and... doesn't make up his own language." Ouch! Wonder what flew up his dragon-scale skirt.
