This May Day marks the release of
Santigold's sophomore effort,
Master of My Make-Believe, an album that arrives a full four years after her debut. The Philly-born, Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter has been away a long time -- not long enough to lose her relevance or miss out on the globalist-maximus, all-genre pop moment she helped usher into being, but long enough, it turns out, to forget the lyrics to "You'll Find a Way," a favorite from her first record.
"Does anyone know the words?" the artist born Santi White and formerly known as Santogold asked the audience Monday at New York City's Bowery Ballroom, where she previewed much of the new album. One fan said he did, but when Santigold passed him the mic, hoping he'd jar her memory, she found him to be of little help.
"Go ahead, you know you want," the fan said, starting strong but then trailing off. "
Something,
something,
something."
