Back to 10 Singers to Check Out in Honor of Black Music Month
Carlitta Durand
TK
Carlitta Durand is not a quitter even though she's had more than her fair share of setbacks. The North Carolina-based songstress was dropped from the Foreign Exchange Music Group in 2010, and not long after, she lost an entire album's worth of work due to a faulty laptop. Not much has been easy since her official start in 2009, with Carlitta's Way, although she'd been working with the rap collective Justus League, comprised of 9th Wonder, Phonte and Big Pooh, for at least three years before. Slowly and carefully, Durand builds on her buzz, with the release of her first full-length album, I'll Be Gorgeous When I Die, which is nearly complete. She recently dropped her first single from the project, "Blown Out."
