#12 J.J. Fad "Supersonic" -- Best Rap Performance (1989)

This was the inaugural year of rap getting its own category at the Grammys, and to their credit, the category was respectable. Kool Moe Dee’s “Wild Wild West,” LL Cool J’s “Going Back To Cali,” Salt-n-Pepa’s “Push It,” and the category’s winner “Parent’s Just Don’t Understand” by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, were all hit records by artists with respectable careers. But including the ladies of Just Jammin’ Fresh And Def showed just how out of touch the Grammy committee was with rap.
