Mavado has become one of the biggest reggae artists to come out of Kingston in years. The dancehall DJ, born David Constantine Brooks, survived growing up in Jamaica's notorious capital city, and in 2007, he finally saw a way into the music industry. Mavado had been pushing hit singles for years, but the release of his first LP, Gangsta for Life: The Symphony of David Brooks, changed everything. By 2009, he'd dropped his second project, Mr. Brooks...A Better Tomorrow, and the smash single "So Specia," put Mavado in a different realm. His true-to-life lyrics garnered the attention of DJ Khaled, who brought him on to the We the Best/Cash Money team in 2011.
