Another close call here. Before snagging this award in 2001, Eminem took home the Best Rap Album award in 2000, with 'The Slim Shady LP.' His fame had reached all sorts of new heights, thanks to several controversies in a year where 'TRL' ruled the tube and the Napster era was at its peak. But when it came to going up against Dr. Dre, the Detroit MC slipped in and took home the Grammy right from under his mentor's nose. However, Dre didn't leave empty-handed. He got a big shout out from "Mr. Controversy" himself in his acceptance speech and still took home three trophies, two of which were for work done on Em's album.
