4. Look for Positivity

A rapper's longevity can depend on the company they keep. Many times an artist's success can be thwarted by the knucklehead tendencies of their so-called friends. Chief Keef hasn't even reached his full potential as a rapper and he's already embroiled in a few public beefs. Granted a lot of it is neighborhood beef in his hometown of Chicago, but once a certain amount of success is achieved, a choice has to be made whether or not to leave certain things -- or people -- behind. The controversy surrounding Keef -- especially after the recent death of his rival Lil' Jojo -- should never surround new artists. It dilutes the music and limits the potential interest to be gained. Besides, too many rappers debut each day to keep up with anyone's drama.
