Diddy had been working towards a career as an artist for quite some time. His first few times on a mic publicly came shortly after Biggie's death. While his rap aspirations rubbed many the wrong way initially, others wondered if he was even serious. As time went on, his rhymes got increasingly better. He managed a few clever quips on certain features, leading some folks to question whether or not he wrote his own lyrics. To that, Diddy responded in 2001's "Bad Boys 4 Life" with these lines: "Don't worry if I write rhymes/ I write checks..." Nowadays, Diddy has worn resistance from many down and people look forward to picking his verses apart while giggling, continuing to ponder over who did the actual penning. He kept at his craft though and we can't ignore his tenacity, especially as he drops jewels like his feature on Future's "Same Damn Time (Remix)."
