8. Go Against the Grain

The main reason behind hip-hop's continuous growth can be credited to inspiration. A major part of the culture is being the freshest, the first and the best. DJ Kool Herc was inspired to throw parties in the recreation room of his building, particularly for fellow kids who weren't into the gang culture that ravaged the borough. Then he was inspired by the dancer's movements to the breaks in the songs he played. That's when he decided to just spin and mix the breaks -- his innovative thinking is what hip-hop started on. Today, the best hip-hop is made when an artist goes against the grain.
