2 Chainz revolutionized artist growth through mixtapes in 18 months. The Atlanta native had been a part of the group Playaz Circle, signed to Ludacris' Disturbing Tha Peace label for the better part of a decade but with his release of 'Codeine Cowboys' and a few months later, 'T.R.U. REALigion,' he cemented his place in the hip-hop market. The DJ Drama-hosted 'T.R.U.' tape featured everyone from Jadakiss to Kreayshawn. It was another notch in 2 Chainz' belt, making him a prime example of how mixtapes can be used to rejuvenate a career and capitalize off of a second wind in an ever-fickle music industry.
