"One thing I witnessed my mother doing my entire life was reading books. She was a waitress – she’s a nurse now, but all my life she waited and bartended -- but her occupation had nothing to do with her intellectual capacity or curiosity. She was a huge sci-fi head -- she read Robert Heinlein and Isaac Asimov and all of the traditional male sci-fi folks. She wasn’t a romance reader and she didn’t necessarily read critical rheory, but she read a wide range of fiction. And she got that from her mom, and I got that from her and I passed that onto Isoke. We are just a family of readers, in terms of the women in my family."
