"When I was a teenager, all of my girlfriends’ mothers were really strict. My dad was stupid strict too. My mom -- granted she’s always been my best friend -- was awesome. She would trust me and beyond. If I wanted to go to a concert or a show, there would be no way that my friends’ mothers would let them go. We would cook up a scheme like, 'Mom, can you tell so-and-so’s mom that she’s sleeping over and you’ll be watching all of us under your supervision and then she’ll come over and then will you let us go to this concert?' She would actually do these things for me! She’d be like, 'Fine, but you have to promise me that you’ll behave.' She’d give me the whole mom spiel, but she’d totally lie to the moms and be like, 'Don’t worry. They’re safe, they’ll be fine.' My mom had this thing though where she trusted me so much that no way would I ever let her down. So if my mom said to call her at 10PM, at 10PM I’d find a payphone. It was because of her that I made sure to never do anything stupid. Hopefully someday I can have that same relationship with my own kid."
