Grammy Award-winning rapper T.I. appeared in court on Tuesday and cut an $8,000 check for past due lawyer fees for the mother of two of his six children. The hearing was part of an ongoing child support case between the 28-year-old rap star and ex-girlfriend LaShon Dixon, who requested the hearing when she failed to receive payment for her attorneys' bill in November.
T.I. arrived in court prepared to pay and claimed it was just an oversight. "It was just a clerical error, totally innocent," he admitted. "I will accept full responsibility for that."
In September, an Atlanta judge ordered the multi-platinum selling rapper to increase his child support payment from $2,000 to $3,000 a month. The rapper was also awarded joint custody of the 7 and 8-year-old boys, but custody terms are still being sorted out.
T.I. is scheduled to begin a one year prison sentence on federal gun possession charges in March.

How can a judge raise child support payments when they have joint custody, meaning the parents split custody 50-50. Why should she get money when she doesnt have them half of the time.
One of the major reasons why we need family law court reforms now, starting with restoring the right of a jury trial.

joint custody does not mean that the parents share the kids 50% each. joint custody means that the parents share in the care and decisions that need to be made for the children. physical custody of the children are decided and agreed to by the parents.

You really think dude was gonna spend his time being a full time good daddy even if wasn't going to the pen? The women usually wind up raising the kids and influencing them the most re homework, social relationships, sense of worth, etc.The guys only get into those court mandated "agreements/settlements" when they are trying to get their child support reduced. My daughter's sons father tried that mess, and actually tried to get custody of their son. He NEVER sees the child, NEVER shows up when he says he's coming and is ALWAYS trying to get my daughter's phone number so he can try to hook up with her again. SHE'S MARRIED now and happy. This numbnut wants to call at all hours, I knmow, cuz he calls my house at all hours cuz he doesn't have her number. Long story short, he didn't get custody, his support was raised 10 dollars (whoa)and the judge gave them alternating holidays and they each get one month during the summer.Plus he has to pick him up from my house every Friday between 4:30 and 5:00. Well, yesterday was friday and he didn't show. But he wants custody. The boy was so disappointed. I called his other grandma and she and I arranged for him to be picked up by her so he would at least be getting to know his fathers family. Now the grandmothers are in charge of helping to see that this little boy knows he is loved by both sides of his family. Child support? Custody? I laugh at the notion.
