Ne-Yo to Aspiring Singer: Lose Weight if You Want to Be a Star

Singer/songwriter Ne-Yo recently advised an aspiring singer to drop a few pounds before trying to make it in the music business. The conversation between the R&B star and the unidentified woman finds Ne-Yo exposing the sad but very true restrictions in the entertainment industry.

The 29-year-old was informed that unless she wants to go the "Jill Scott route" or win an Oscar like Jennifer Hudson she's pretty much stuck. So for all you ladies out there thinking of merging into the same lane as a superstar like Beyonce, you can't compete with that extra meat on your bones, according to Ne-Yo. Check out the video below.

That aspiring singer has another problem. Her age. She's almost 30. She's going to have a tough time competing with the younger singers out there. I think she should go the Neo-Soul route.

It is Neyo's fault, instead of going against the industry and society he is going with it. He's supporting it by telling her that. He's supporting it because he feels the same way. It's MENS FAULT, but it's women's fault for allowing it to go on. The men have turned us against ourselves in this heinous competition. Men have dictated who would get the best roles or the most publicity, so in essence, IT'S BECAUSE OF MEN WOMEN AREN'T COMFORTABLE BEING THEMSELVES AND AREN'T ALLOWED TO GET FAT. Feeling helpless we went along with what they said and dictated becuase the men have all the power to make or break you in hollywood or corporate. Why do you think women felt they needed to dress like men in suits in order to feel competative with men in their fields. Women were also humiliated in that they weren't given promotions unless they were on their knees or backs. Women need to gain power back and put men in their places. WE need to support our sisters by buying their products or music and not buy products from beyonce, spears, simpson, or any other skinny celeb. That's one of the ways to change the way they promote upcoming stars. How come the men can be fat and fugly and get all kinds of promotions and deals, but the women fade into the hollywood storage closets. CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN LADIES.

I fully understand his comments and think they are being taken out of context.he never said those were his standards. We all know how shallow the industry is.There are alot more semi-talented skinny women than there are regular sized powerhouses. For anyone that believe his statements to be false please refer to the situation with Martha Walsh. She was talented but heavy and thats why she was kept behind the scenes to sing but they used a thinner no talent singer for the video. She was one of the first people to put the industry on blast for their double standards.JMO

Ne-Yo is 100% correct no one wants to see a fat star. There are enough heffers roaming the streets, and making me and the rest of the men sick to our stomaches.

it's a telling commentary about our culture, that we willingly starve ourselves, that bulemia and anorexia are common problems among adolescent girls, while there are children literally starving and dying from a real lack of food in other countries, where there are mothers who hold their children in their arms and watch them die of starvation. while in this country, young women starve themselves just for the price of fame, just for the opportunity to appear half-naked in a video, where often the male artist is calling women bitches and hoes. we're so twisted.

You can't get angry at Ne-Yo on this one. If you listen, he calls them "shallow motherf*ckers" so he is NOT endorsing the pop industry standards. He's just trying to be honest about what music executives and fans expect, unfortunately. She has an amazing voice, I would listen to her! I hope we hear more!

In a perfect society, I guess we would all have to be blind so we couldnt see the wrinkles of the overweight, the wrinkles of the aging, or the imperfections that makes one classified as ugly. And even then, there would be some self proclaimed "perfect flawless" a-hole that would take it upon himself or herself to feel someone up for wrinkles and flaws....lol......Sadly most of the time a person is judged by their appearance before given a chance to really "see" the person.
