You may not know everything about Cassandra "Cassie" Ventura's music, but chances are you know more than enough about her personal life. Whether it's the rumored fling with longtime friend and collaborator Sean "Diddy" Combs, nude pictures, or her newly half-shaven head, her name just can't seem to stay off the blogs. The 23-year-old, Connecticut native is set to prove that she is more than just a pretty face, with her sophomore release 'Electro Love,' and is well aware that her climb to the top is proving to be an up-hill battle.
"I definitely feel like an underdog. As many times as people have things to say about me and have tried to divert it from what I'm really trying to do -- which is music -- I get to fight back. Starting over is kind of cool to me, I like it."
Unlike her self-titled debut, which was produced by former beau Ryan Leslie, her upcoming release, the dance-friendly 'Electro Love,' boasts a dream-team of producers including, Diddy, Pharrell, Akon, The Dream and Tricky Stewart. "The first album was with Ryan Leslie, which was cool, but I wanted to branch out and do my own thing." Part of that liberation comes in not always seeing eye-to-eye with Diddy, who Cassie says is as hard on her as he is with everyone else. "We bump heads, like if I thought the performance was great or he thought I needed to do it again, " she said. "But everybody bumps heads once in a while, especially in the same work place."
Since her 2006 hit single 'Me and You,' and her self-titled debut album, Cassie has managed to garner a healthy helping of news headlines. This year has been especially challenging as nude pictures of the singer somehow found their way to the Internet.
"I was extremely upset. I won't say exactly what happened to me but it was pretty rough," she said of the photos. "My mom was on the east coast and I didn't want to startle her but I wanted to let her know before she woke up in the morning, so I called her. That was probably the roughest part. It really sucked. It takes away from everything that I've worked so hard on.
"Of course everyone has their thoughts on it: 'Oh I think she leaked them herself.' I don't know what woman in her right mind would ever leak pictures of herself on the Internet. I always say the blogs [are] the gift and the curse. The gift of it is that they move on the next day."
Cassie has since stated that the photos, taken for her boyfriend at the time, were stolen from an old Gmail account (we are happy to report that she has no problem with AOL mail though.). Support from her family, mainly her father, has been the most helpful in her getting through the ordeal. "I'm really lucky, both my parents are very understanding. He [my father] could've disowned me but my dad loves me! He was like 'It's none of people's business what you do in your private life.' I appreciated hearing that from my father."
Despite a hectic schedule that finds her jet setting from one end of the world to the next, coming home to Connecticut and hanging out with her friends and family is her favorite way to wind down. Before beginning the rush of promoting her second album, slated for an end of they year release, Cassie is also preparing herself for "ambush interviews" similar to one that happened a few weeks ago.
Radio personality Charlemagne The God, former co-host on the 'Wendy William's Show,' unleashed an angry the listener on the singer catching her completely off guard. "I go into every interview willing to talk about whatever the interviewer wants to talk about. [But] being talked at and just degraded for no reason... it was just too much," she said. "That interview in itself was very confusing. I didn't know who Charlemagne was. I found out later on that he was Wendy William's little puppy."
Five years in the music industry has undoubtedly helped her develop a tough skin but she does acknowledge that people are quick to attack because they think she won't respond. "I think there's been a constant misconception of who I am in the public view [be]cause I haven't really let people know who I am. That has given people the idea that they can speak to me however they want. They will soon find out that that's not the case."

She is well spoken but boring-maybe that's your problem Cassie-no personality. You are no doubt a beautiful woman-perhaps you thought that's all you needed to make in the music industry..oh and sleeping with the CEO of the record label sure doesnt hurt.

I was turned off by Cassie w/her 1st single released on the 1st CD. I am tired of women (and men) N the industry using sex 2 sell music. I know it’s been done 4 yrs but N this case, it’s vulgar, sexual lyrics that have destroyed our music & image as a people & the business with filth, smut & worthless work THEY call music. U can B sexy but have class. A child/young adult especially a young lady, doesn’t need 2B singing about their sex life, especially in a way that makes it sounds as if U have been passed around from 1 2 another. U can’t demand respect from your audience when U come out of the box singing those kinds of lyrics, while it’s rumored that U R “sleeping” w/the producer &/R the CEO, with talent that is subpar. Unfortunately, children, teens & young adults R oftentimes lured N2 buying N2 music w/those type of explicit lyrics, so every artists out there thinks there is some formula of smut they have 2 peddle 2 sell CDs. Regarding the nude photos, I can’t understand why any 1 would take nude photos & send them out 2 others, then when they are “leaked” to the public, especially if U work N the public eye, find yourself embarrassed & upset. Once U put an image out there, U lose control. The media & public opinion takes it 2 another level. What U put out N2 the universe is what U get back. Everything said & done has consequences 4 us all. Cassie is not the strongest vocalist, so 2 me, she is lumped in the pile of female singers w/ “a look” that can dance but provide no real substance vocally AND lyrically. If she wants 2 set herself apart, glam it up w/class, speak w/intelligence & sing lyrics w/substance & class. Get a vocal coach & give live shows, showcasing not only the dance but a vocal ability w/stamina. I think maybe some poor choices so far have caused people 2B put off by her already, which is why she gets the cold/harsh treatment. She will have 2 stay strong, learn from her mistakes & adopt class & self respect N2 her shtick. Her father should have taught & reinforced 2 her God’s will 4 marriage/sex & told her how 2 behave like a lady instead of co-signing her bad choices.

y do u have 2 type like this?
It's extremely annoying. Learn how to use correct grammar and spelling, dear.

I whole heartedly agree with you! and forget that schmooe who's complaining about your grammar they are obviously pre-historic and have not caught on to texting yet!
divandeetoat 7-12-2009
This is not 7th grade. This isnt texting. Readers would appreciate a grammatically corret response I think. Thanking you in advance.
tbirdchica2696at 7-12-2009
actually i agree with the comment about correct grammar...it is easier to read and understand. and don't try to tell me i'm prehistoric, because i'm only thirteen
kdone414at 7-12-2009
Oh My God or OMG to this texting twit.... Honestly if teenagers think that using this grammar beyond their stupid cell phones is ok.... I hope you enjoy working at McDonalds where all you have to do to run the cash register is push the button that looks like a french fry or sundae...
The REAL world is not going to accept this type of grammar and you don't have to call anyone that does'nt think so prehistoric. It's reality. Oh wait, maybe not YOUR teenager reality... the real world reality, which is what counts. Learn to speak English and spell properly!

I agree, leave the texting to your phone. the worst part of this bimbos whole rant is that she is 34 according to her screen name 12272=Dec. 2 1972. some people need to grow up but in her case i bet she is happy being a shift manager at some fast food joint!
kbaredge12at 7-12-2009
I agree with you.But learn how to write English.Texting is fine for high schoolers like Delia.
Livat 7-12-2009
Um..I agree that people type as if they're texting too much. But why is everyone getting so nasty and coming down on her about it? I tutored people in analytical grammar in college and I was able to actually pay attention to her point and understand it...ppl who write like they txtn can b annoyn but cmon. If thas what they n2 then let it b lolz. No need to pass personal judgements on somebody based on how they type, just like we shouldn't judge people by color, sex, religion, etc. I happen to agree with everything she said, even if I would have written it differently. Sometimes I even revert to texting style or shorthand if I'm leaving a comment and only have a limited amount of space. Maybe that's why she was typing like that, since her comment was very long. Grow up, people, and stop being so mean. It's not that big of a deal. If you don't want to read that, then go read something else!
OMGItsSoJenniferat 7-12-2009
okay so i know i defiantly shouldnt say this (screenname) but you should really write words instead of numbers and make it easier for us. it took me awhile to understand "N2"
Michelleat 7-15-2009
I don't understand why there are so many negative comments about the way she chose to write her response. This isn't a formal essay. It's a blog. It's not that deep. If you can't understand what she wrote, move on and make your own comment about the article. You make yourself look less than intelligent for being so harsh about something so irrelevant.
Also, it's hysterically ironic that there were so many spelling and grammar mistakes coming from the people ranting about the way she wrote her response in shorthand. (And there is nothing grammatically incorrect about shorthand when you realize its purpose).
kat12272at 7-16-2009
Thank YOU Michelle for your defense!!! Kdone414, I am a grown, college educated woman! I chose the shorthand because I could! If you could not understand the most simple of shorthand, whose the twit!? Overall, I hope that whatever you got out of my message, it was a reminder that young women must guard their bodies and repuation, no matter what career path they choose for a living! Once you put out anything such as sexual lyrics and/or photos, you lose control over what people think. I wish Cassie luck with repairing her image, personal and professional. I hope she works on her live performances and perform music with class, stamina and substance. We need that today after so many or rather too many of our top female artists choose to sell sex. It's getting old. Good luck!
