Nas Not Allowed to Witness Son's Birth?

Rapper Nas and his soon-to-be ex-wife Kelis are both celebrating the birth of their son, but according to reports the doting dad was not allowed in the delivery room. Kelis, was rushed to a hospital Tuesday, ironically forcing her to postpone a scheduled child support hearing.

"Nas is in New York City today, anxiously awaiting the arrival of his son. It was his intention to be there for the birth, but unfortunately he has not been allowed to be present," said a source close to the rapper. "While this is clearly heartbreaking to him, Nas continues to offer his support and love to his new baby boy and his mother." According to reports, Nas rushed to the hospital when he received word Kelis went into labor, but missed the actual birth.

The couple tied the knot in 2005 following a two-year engagement. Following their recent split, negotiations between the two have gotten pretty ugly. Kelis stated that without Nas' financial support she would not be able to survive, as her pregnant condition hindered her ability to work. She stated that her ex made upwards of $11 million last year, a claim that he later refuted.

The birth of their son marks the first child for Kelis, and the second for Nas, who has a 15-year-old daughter, Destiny, from a previous relationship.

Just wanted to point out that it was Kelis who filed for divorce, not Nas.

Kelis is the one with the sex tapes and relationships with other artist, not Nas.

Nas wanted to be there for the birth of his child, Kelis denied him that. Kelis denied Nas the same thing that women all over the country are fighting for, to have the father involved.

I have lost alot of respect for Kelis and the majority of uninformed women posting bias comments here.

To prncsa2000,
How do you feel about there being a new law that makes it mandadory that all live births receive a DNA test along with all of the regular newborn blood work? Why are so many women fighting against it?

To Prncsa2000,
Your last commments about the receipt and the disposition the court takes is accurate. But inherent in the statement is one of the biggest problems that plague the situation. There shouldn't be a presumption of a woman being the better person for the child. And as for the don't worry about the money aspect of it. You have to worry about the money if you are an involved parent because if the child's needs are not being met, you still spend additional money to get the job done. Seeing her hair styled and your son's needs a cut isn't right. Neither is the fact that when you pick him up his clothes are old and dirty but she looks like big money.

Actually I was responding to the gentleman's post but you are absolutely right in that there absolutely shouldn't be a presumption that the woman is the better person for the child since not all mother's are good mother's but just the same that all father's aren't good father's. The child should be with the person that will be able to care for the child the best. Unfortunately that doesn't happen and it's the children that get the short end of the stick. As far as not worrying about the money goes, if you are an involved parent then you would know exactly where the money goes. If the child's needs are not being taken care of then you document everything and go to court for it. You take pictures, you record phone calls, you do everything in your power to see that your child is being taken care of properly. If your child is not being clothed properly then you take your child shopping for some clothes. I'm just saying that you can't expect that whichever parent has custody of the child he or she is going to care for them properly and if that's the case then you fight for your child so that they will be raised in an environment where all of their needs are taken care of.

Why not make DNA testing mandatory? Hell that's a great idea!

This is some real Bull...Everybody knows that no matter how right the male might be (no matter who he is celebrity or not)in these child support hearings...he will always get the short end of the stick. Especially if he's a Black Male period...Look at all the brothers that have paid child support for years to find out years later that the child wasn't even theirs biologically?

I don't think it matters what your ethnicity is, the court always favors the woman unless you have some strong evidence against her. The first thing to do is to get a paternity test, that way you protect yourself. Never pay the mother's directly, always pay through the court so they can't turn around and say that you haven't given them a dime. Always keep your receipts and call periodically to get print outs of what you have paid because they sometimes miss payments. If the child is yours then you should pay child support and you shouldn't worry about what the mother spends that money on because in the courts eyes you are making your payments and that's all that matters.

Oh, so I guess the fact that the baby was inside of her instead of outside makes it any better? Really? So if she had an abortion before the birth it wouldn't have been considered killing a baby because the baby wasn't "outside" of the womb...When you are pregnant you eat for two, you are two...He "left them both" and then wanted to be a part of the birthing process, hahahahaha. Yeah let him be a part of it, from outside the room!
