Not that he needed them, but Jay-Z has just earned some extra bragging rights. According to Billboard, the hip-hop star landed in the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 with his 11th solo album, 'The Blueprint 3,' which means he's now surpassed Elvis Presley as the solo act with the most No. 1 albums in Billboard 200 history. The highly-anticipated, third installment in the Blueprint series sold an impressive 476,000 copies despite being leaked onto the Internet a week before its official release.
And if breaking Presley's record wasn't enough, Jay also has the second-most No. 1 albums among all acts, solo or group, with The Beatles in the top spot. Hov would have to record nine more No. 1 albums to top the English rock/pop foursome, who racked up 19 No. 1 albums over the years. (We think it's more than possible.)
Unarguably one of the smartest MCs in the game, Jay began the BP3 campaign over a year ago when rumors circulated that the rapper was working on another album just months after releasing 'American Gangster' in 2007.
Hov went on to record 'Swagga Like Us' with T.I., Kanye West and Lil Wayne, and 'Brooklyn Go Hard,' featuring Santigold, increasing the buzz around 'Blueprint 3.' 'Swagga Like Us' was due to appear on BP3 until Jay announced that he'd banned the auto-tune effect from his album. 'Brooklyn Go Hard,' dubbed as a promo single for BP3, never made it on the new project, but appears on the soundtrack for the Notorious B.I.G. biopic 'Notorious.'
