Auto-tune King T-Pain just leaked a track called 'Dope,' from his forthcoming album 'RevolveR,' featuring Chicago rapper Shawnna. The long-overlooked female MC begins her verse by announcing that she is the newest signee to Pain's Nappy Boy imprint, rhyming "It ain't no secret that lyrically I'm the reason Nappy Boy had to put me on their team."
Shawnna's signing is surprising. It comes on the heels of the announcement that the long-awaited 'Battle of the Sexes' album, a collaboration between Shawnna and Ludacris which has been in the works for years, will be released on Ludacris' Disturbing Tha Peace label.
Shawnna and Ludacris first collaborated on Luda's 2000 single 'What's Your Fantasy,' and have worked together ever since. She's appeared on both DTP group albums, and has released two solo albums through DTP/Def Jam, 'Worth tha Weight,' and 'Block Music.'
Regarding the status of Shawnna's label, XXL reports that a DTP rep assured them that the 'Battle of the Sexes' album is "still a priority" though there is still no scheduled date for the release.
Nappy Boy records said that they had "no comment," when asked about the signing.
