R. Kelly Reveals He Suffers From Illiteracy

R. KellyR&B singer/songwriter R. Kelly revealed that despite his musical talents, he suffers from illiteracy and barely made it through grade school. The Grammy winner recently spoke at the Midwest Music Festival in Chicago, about the trials and tribulations of starting his career.

"When I was trying to make it out here, I already knew, and I was stubborn about it," he said. "I don't even read really and I'm not afraid to say that. My cousins and brothers used to tease me 'you can't even read right. How you think you're going to come up?' The only reason I graduated from grammar school is because I had a great jump shot. I went to high school and [my teacher] told me 'you will one of the greatest writers of all time.' I believed. You [have to] believe it. You can't believe [anything] if you're hating. You can't achieve [anything] if you're hating."

Since being exonerated from child molestation charges Kelly has been working on his upcoming release. When news of Kelly's possible sexual escapades with a then underage girl broke in 2001, the singer maintained his innocence despite the leak of a sex tape showing him and the victim. He has received mixed reactions in response to the allegations but the 42-year-old stated that he is undaunted by his critics. "I got ya'll beat if you're hating on me," he said. "Because I love you. That's why I keep doing what I do."

Last year Kelly spoke publicly about the child molestation case. "I can't keep answering these questions," he said in an interview. "If you [were] charged with something and you [were] found innocent, then you can't be found guilty for being found innocent."

Kelly's forthcoming album is due in stores Oct. 12.

WelcomeSir, I have several post-graduate degrees and one of them is in the law--can you say the same? Nonetheless, thanks for revealing your lack of standards--it's not about money, knucklehead, it's about standards, or do you not understand what standards means? Your line of thinking means he can buy some education, stick it up his behind and squeeze tightly, he becomes a genius. Buzzer going off, WRONG ANSWER!!!!! His money can't buy respect, can it? His money can't make him a person who has standards, can it? It's low-life people like you who sell black people a bill of spoiled goods and call it healthy for the black masses. Black folks are not immune to selling their souls and the souls of others--meaning the continued destruction of black folks-- for the love of money. You and Kelly are of the same ilk. If you don't know what it means, look it up in the dictionary--if you know how.

To the ignorant fool who made the "cotton picking" comment...what does that have to do with ANYTHING?? LOL!!! You just needed something to say because you're pathetic and your mommy never gave you her tit. Well there you go...you got your few secs in the spotlight. Next time before you speak, use your a$$ to think because it's clear your brain has malfunctioned.

How many of you who support him saw that video...cause I did and let me tell you I have never been so appalled. I was expecting some overdeveloped, make-up and weave wearing fast azz...but what I saw was a typical little girl whose body was not even completely formed with no make up and barely enough hair to make a pony tail. Now earlier in the video you see him with other women who he does not seem particularly interested in...but his "enthusiasm" with this little girl was disturbing to say the least. As much as I would have loved to watch it and say it was not him or found some other reason to exonerate him...I was instead mortified. And to this day I dont understand how anyone who could have watched that video ever support him because what you saw was a man who could probably have any woman he wanted instead rape a child.

Court case or not. Grammy winner or not...it just shows how the school system here really dosen't care about people's education. Can't read? If you can throw a football or have a jump shot...no problem. What if he did not become famous? He would just be another street thug or sweeping the floors at the same school that graduated him.
