Lil Boosie has a plan to finance universal health care: legalize marijuana. "I got diabetes," the 25-year-old rapper said in an interview with SOHH. "Everybody should have health care. They should legalize the weed and use that to pay for health care."
Boosie understands the need for universal health care, a hot button issue gripping U.S. politics. Despite the fact that his second studio album, 'Superbad: Return of Boosie Bad Azz,' debuted at No. 7 on The Billboard 200 albums chart in September, his record label does not cover his health care costs, and he only recently obtained coverage. "I pay for it with my money," he said. "I didn't have it before. [I] just got it when I got money."
Ironically, the Louisiana native will early next month begin serving a two-year prison term for possession of marijuana and weapons charges.
"It's just a minor setback," he told AllHipHop, of the sentence, which could be reduced to under a year, pending good behavior. "I am not even a convicted felon and they are giving me time. Before I take them to trial, I am going to take my year like a real man and come back home and let that boost my career move. It's just crazy how the Louisiana court system works."
The rapper, Torrence Hatch, reached a plea agreement with prosecutors that substantially decreased the initial 10-year sentence he faced.
Despite the stretch in lock-up, Lil Boosie fans won't need to wait very long for a new album from the rapper. He has reported already finished his next album, tentatively titled 'Free at Last,' which he hopes to issue the week he is released from prison.
