Comedian Katt Williams was arrested near Atlanta, Georgia last night (Nov. 8), and charged with burglary and criminal trespassing. The Coweta County Sheriff's Office confirmed that a suburban Atlanta homeowner contacted police at around 9PM Sunday night, claiming the 38-year-old comedian "gained entry by breaking into the home, and items were taken from the residence." Jewelry is said to be among the items stolen.
Williams put on a smile for his mug shot and currently remains in custody at the Coweta County jail. He will appear before a judge today (Monday) at 4PM ET. It is believed the Los Angeles-based comedian, best known for his 'Pimp Chronicles' DVDs and for roles in the Ice Cube-helmed feature films 'Friday After Next' and 'First Sunday,' was in town shooting a movie.
This is not Williams' first run-in with the law. The unstable funnyman, who notoriously backed out of hosting the 2008 BET Awards at the last minute, has been arrested several times for carrying a concealed firearm. He was arrested in New York City a year ago, on the eve of his Carnegie Hall debut, after NYPD pulled Williams over for driving without a license plate and uncovered three handguns in his possession. Charges were dropped this year when prosecutors were unable to prove their case. In November of 2006, the comedian was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport when airport security found a gun in his luggage. He pleaded no contest to the gun charge and received three years probation.
