According to a recent report from HipHopDX, AZ is currently working on a comeback sequel to his mid-90s classic 'Doe or Die.' Like many recent blockbuster hip-hop albums, AZ is hoping to mix a nostalgic formula with something a little more forward thinking and futuristic. A big part of creating a viable 2010 record will be drafting some big name producers to guide the sound. On that front, AZ is chasing some tracks from Kanye West, Dr. Dre and Nas. "Buckwild's on board," said AZ in the interview. "I spoke with L.E.S. I spoke to D/R [Period]. I spoke to them. They all there. At the same time, I wanna bring newcomers to the table ... I'm trying to reach out to Dr. Dre. I'm trying to make this epic, too, like just bring everything to a full circle. So I'm gonna [reach back] into the past, but I'm also gonna bring it to the future. I even need a joint from Kanye. I gotta knock on his door. I'm gonna knock on his door real soon."
AZ famously launched his career to mainstream audiences with a guest spot on Nas' 1994 album 'Illmatic.' AZ understands Nas is going through a rough patch, but he hopes to get everything together in time for 2010. In an interview with SOHH earlier this year, he commented on the success of sequels, citing Raekwon and Jay-Z's recent efforts as an example of what he's going for.
"Raekwon did the 'Cuban Linx 2' and [there's] 'The Blueprint 3' and 'The Carter III and IV,' so them sequels do good in the marketplace," AZ explained. "I'm trying to do this 'Doe or Die 2.' I reached out to [Nas]. I haven't gotten feedback as of yet, but like I said, look at what he's going through."
