Rapper Kanye West got into the Christmas spirit by making a surprise appearance at the Los Angeles Mission Saturday (Dec. 26). The Grammy winner, alongside longtime girlfriend Amber Rose, joined other volunteers and served lunch to the homeless, who greeted the Chicago native and took pictures. "It's just important [to give back] when you're very blessed," West told The BoomBox. West showed up ready to work. He went straight for the kitchen, put on a apron and got on serving duty. "[It's nice] to spread your blessings and take time out, especially during the holidays to appreciate people who never get that appreciation. It makes me feel really good to come out here, [with] my family, and I just thank y'all [the Los Angeles Mission] for allowing us to be apart of this."
The Los Angeles Mission is a nonprofit organization that has been serving the homeless for more than 70 years. Located in L.A.'s downtown Skid Row district, the organization offers employment, transitional services and rehabilitation to those struggling with substance abuse.

Seriously, I thought the same thing. Also, does anyone else notice the usage of "apart" where it should be "a part" ?
Maybe they meant it though, because that would show Kanye in a negative light once again and we all know that's where he belongs.

I am reading this and I noticed that not one penny came out of Kanye's pocket. What a loser. Bad publicity stunt.

He's making an effort to clean up his image...at least he's tryin'. How long does he have to be in the doghouse? Yes it was disrespectful what he did and he's apologized to the young lady and her mother, plus Jay Leno made him cry on national TV. It's not like he's killed anybody. Adam Lambert disrespected those of us that watched his disgusting performance & I don't see that everyone wants him six feet under or broke. I believe that Kanye is beginning to see the error of his ways.

Marsha, I understand your view, but Kayne targeted a specific individual at a very special moment for her simply because he did not agree with the decision while Adam Lambert's actions were just plain inappropriate and offensive for the venue he was playing. Kayne's actions were self-centered and childish in a way that is beyond offensive, it was an embarrassing temper tantrum that highlighted his true character. It is not surprising his behavior is causing him to be shunned, it is expected actually.

Why is it big news when a celebrity or first lady does a photo op at a homeless shelter, but those who volunteer their time and energy every single day at such places never even get a mention? They're the real heroes, not the narcissistic jerks who want to give themselves a pat on the back.

Patrick, I couldn't agree more!!

Kanye was indeed an asshole that night. He was being his usual spoiled self. However I don't believe that he "targeted" Taylor Swift. If you'll recall he said to her that he was happy for her and that he will let her speak (I know, the audacity), then he proceeded to be even more "offensive". I'm just asking how long is he going to be "shunned" as the Evil Black man that stole the very young, blond and innocent girl's glory? He hasn't gotten a free pass from anyone, nor should he have. Again I'll just say that I believe that Kanye knows that he has been out of line and is trying to find ways to show amends.
kscraig9055at 12-28-2009
Not everyone sees him as the "Evil Black man", some of us just see him for what he is, self-centered and embarrassingly childish, no matter what the color of his skin. And yes, he did target Taylor Swift. Although I am not a huge fan of Taylor Swift, his behavior was directed at her, not an entire audience and his actions were unforgivable. No apology can make up for Kayne's humiliating and degrading her like he did.

I couldn't agree with you more Patrick!
