After months of taunting patient fans, the Roots have finally announced an official release date for their long overdue album 'How I Got Over.' According to a Thursday night (March 4) tweet from drummer and producer Questlove, the group's ninth studio album will finally hit stores on June 8 -- a year later than it's original release date.
Initially scheduled for a June 2009 release, the album was pushed back to the fall and again in early 2010, but neither of the dates panned out. According to the Roots, the delays were a result of excessive time spent in the studio. In October, Quest told Billboard that the group was constantly recording new material, making it difficult to complete the project as early as they intended. "I think we have about 723 jams in the can," Quest said. No tracklist for the album has been made available yet.
The Roots celebrated their one-year anniversary as the house band on 'Late Night With Jimmy Fallon' this month, followed by the lineup announcement for their 3rd Annual Roots Picnic, which has been hinting at a reunion performance by legendary hip-hop group Run-DMC.
